found a musket ball in my yard today!

[Beeps in my sleep]

I live in Shippensburg, PA. Not only did 20k confederates invade my town on the way to Gettysburg, I have a french and indian fort marker not 200 feet from my house! The British were here too. Dug this on the corner of my house. I think it is dropped. It isn't deformed and you can see the sprue on it. I am done digging for the day. The ground is to hard to dry. I couldnt even get a good signal ID on this but I dug it anyway. So stoked!

Good find congrats.

Yeah? Well, where's the documentation official or otherwise that someone from the Civil War actually dropped that near your house? Nope, sorry, couldn't be.

( LOL )

Sounds like you are sitting on a GREAT potential hot spot!!

Congrats!

Nice save!

What caliber is that ? Nice find.

I don't have calipers and no way to measure. All I know is that its my first intact musket ball. The others are deformed that I have found in other areas. and whatdidifind you crack me up lol.

Now that you found the ball that goes with the jack, I guess it's case closed.

That's not a "jack"! That's a caltrop!!!

I don't think the confederates dropped a round ball, more likely from the era of the fort. Looks like a large caliber musket ball to my tired old eyes.
