Went out not far from home to explore an old farmhouse site and found a pocket watch and a padlock. I pulled the back off the pocket watch and using a microscope I have at work found the name RH Ingersoll & Bros inside. I was able to ID it as an Ingersoll Eclipse which sold in the late 1890s and early 1900s for about a $1.50. The lock I believe was made by S.B. co., Inc.

Ingersoll sold their "Yankee" model pocket watch for a buck around the same time frame, and their slogan was "The watch that made the dollar bill famous."

Both Really cool finds!!!!

Lets Go Pens!!! Here we go Steelers!! Cool finds.

There is actually a catagory of watches called "Dollar Watches". I believe Ingersoll was one of the first to make a line of watches that sold for less that two dollars. There were more companies later. Tony

roygpa great finds but does that mean time to lock up for the season. HH

I put in a bid on a non working Ingersoll pocket watch that I thought I could use to show people what my find used to look like. Unfortunately I was outbid. I can't see spending more than 5 bucks on a non working pocket watch. Maybe a can find a working version in the future.

Love watch finds of any kind.
The older the better...congratZ!

:hello2: Two cool finds! :hello2: I'm jealous :BangHead: as have only found portions of old watches here & there - but I love my partial watches, lol.

Since you chose not to go bid-berserk in the auction for same type of watch as you dug, you can now instead print a clear picture of one of those watches from your computer, and keep it with your less-gorgeous version to show to people. Have Fun! Andi
