Hello,

I've had this piece for over 15 years. The person who gave it to me said they found it in South Florida in the 1950s. I'm not sure how true that is, but they had it at least in the 80s.

Can anyone help me identify it? I'm unfamiliar with coins, especially these types. How can I tell if it's a replica?

Thanks in advance!
Look at the broken piece.Looks like what is referred to as pot metal.

It has an unusual punch dot pattern upon the reverse of the coin that covers up part of the Mexico City mint cross and castles. It doesn't look like silver, as other posters have indicated, and silver does not break like that. It's a die from 1731, which is an oMp mint mark off the 1733 wrecks, that is much rarer than a 1715 piece. The die is very crude looking and not well stamped. It looks like a copy.
