I found an outcrop of this black rock with blue/purple veins running through it. Directly below the outcrop, I found this blue clay that has apparently weathered out of the black rock. Silver ore maybe? The black rocks are unusually heavy for their size as well. Any ways to test for silver content other than an assay or the is of nitric acid? Thanks in advance View attachment 1655584 View attachment 1655585 View attachment 1655586 View attachment 1655587 View attachment 1655589

I read a story once about the first mines in the Carson City, Nev area one time. The minors had encountered silver veins in hard rock and had sent for hard rock mining experts from the copper mines in Ireland. When they got there and were confronted by all the questions about extracting the ore from quartz the Irish kindly enquired what they'd been doing with the dark black sludge they'd been mucking out of the digs? Yep, you guessed it!

Best wishes!
