Found More Spanish Silver Today, Shes HUGE!!!

Back in the cane fields today with Buckleboy and my son. Check out what my son found! http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,452882.0.html I dug another pewter button, two flat buttons , a .54 caliber round ball, a copper coin I have not identified yet and, ready









A 1836 8 Reales!!! This is the 5th Spanish silver dug on this house site in four hunts!! The unidentified copper coin is 25 mm in diameter and I can read a date of 1719 or 1819, the tail of the 9 appears to go straight down, it's very thin. More on it later when I weigh it.

Wow, really nice find, and a rare one too! Man, I would keep hitting that field until I was sure I hunted every INCH of it! Also, it's nice to see a coin of that caliber that was really dug.

Well, all I heard on the phone ALL morning was "AIEE AIEE!!"-LOL. Great finds and tell Anthony Congrats on having a good eye and BB for being a good instructor for him in eyeballing canefield relics. That's what I was thinking too, looks like maybe it was cast and plated. Awesome find, even more so if it's counterfeit!

Looks plated to me. Fantastic find, and the newest coin to come from this spot. The others were 1777, 1801, 1806, 1807, and 1819(?).

Awesome. Simply Awesome. Even better to see someone besides Hill Billy dig one.

After seeing what you dug, and what Anthony found today, I am not even gonna bother posting my handfull of flat buttons and pipe stem pieces. Congrats, Shane. I told ya we were gonna get you some early stuff. Glad you weren't too jealous of that war nickel I dug in November.

Your 8R is from Zacatecas, Mexico ('Zs'); the diameter should be 39 mm and the silver fineness at .9028 as shown by the "10 Ds 20 Gs" (10 dineros, 20 grains) versus 12 dineros for 100% silver.

Don, could you tell me what an authentic 8 Reales weighs and a counterfeit? Mine weighs 23.6 Grams. Thank you for the reply and information. Shane
