I found my first arrowhead yesterday while detecting an area here in Wake County, NC that they are clearing for a new road.
This was found in an area that I've found a lot of CW relics over the years too.
I was told to post it here for some possible help on IDing it. I have no clue about Indian artifacts. :icon_scratch:
Does anyone know anything about this arrowhead? Age? Type? etc.
Thanks so much for any input,
MM

Nice find, Congrats, it's a great feeling, isn't it... Well as you can see its narrow bladed, with weak tapered shoulders...

Looks like you've found yourself a 'Holmes'. Late Archaic-2,000BC-1,000BC. Also looks like Rhyolite (lower grade).

Welcome to our group, I'm in NC too about 80 miles away..

Good Luck for your next hunt...Well done.

Molly..

Nice find.

You'll have to wait until our resident NC expert Molly sees this. I'm sure she can ID it for you no problem. I will say though that the material looks like Rhyolite.

HA HA!!! Looks like she beat me to the punch and was posting as I typed this. lol

HOLY SMOKE SIGNALS!!!!! You have got to be kidding me!!!! Fantastic.
Molly- Thank you soooooooooooooo much for that ID.
Again, I don't know squat about these things. Is that considered very old as far as arrowheads go? Is there much value to it? (I'm not selling, just curious).
I'm as excited as that Nick P. character when he found his. ;D
Thank you.

B = Before C = Christ ...

That sucker IS OLD ...

Rock On Lish ... SWEET ... Nick

Thanks for clearing that up Nick.
I thought the "BC" meant BEFORE CARS or BEFORE CELLS. :tongue3: :tard:

Fantastic find.. If I was you, I'd get back there and follow that bulldozer.

Thanks Bob.
Let's try to hook up next week after I get off work one day. (about 4:30pm)
We can both hit it. If you find an LC before me though, I'll stab you with an arrowhead! :o
-Doug-
P.S. Wear pants, not shorts.

Sounds good.... I'd be interested in knowing what that arrowhead is worth. Got any idea?

I think about $3000, but I'll sell it to you for ONLY $2500. Deal? :tongue3:
Actually, I'm hoping Molly replies back on that question. I have no idea? ???

Might be worth a trip to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.

Worth? It's prolly worth $10, $15 to an NC collector. Nothing more, you're better off keeping it. I'll give you 5 Bucks for it. ;D

Molly. ::)

Darn that was funny.

Thanks for your help Molly. You are welcome to MD with us any time. We always have.
Have a great w/end,
Doug

It may not be worth "much" $$, but as the finder, you're rich. I've found a few on my land that's been in the family for 100 years, though not as many as my grandfather found. Each is precious. Do some point research and you'll find there are several different "family" types. Interesting.

Thanks for sharing! -Noodle

Glad I could bring a smile to you today Molly, but I was dead serious. As far as I'm concerned you are our resident NC artifact expert. I would trust you to ID anything found within your region. You have studied the artifacts from your area extensively it seems and really know your stuff. My hats off to you!

Not trying to knock anyone here but, I don't think that point is Archaic by any means. I believe that point is of the Woodland era. Still a great find, just not quite as old. Sweet find

Doug,
What does the "Woodland" era mean? Age? This is all new to me.
Thanks,
MM (Doug)
