I have been detecting for seven years, I've dug a zillion buttons, many old Customs buttons. I have dreamed of digging a North West Mounted Police button since day one. Today it finally happened, and four of them! It's been a while since I had a dug item really stall my brain out and leave me slack jawed haha.

The NWMP formed in 1873 and existed with that title until 1903. In 1874 287 officers made the famous ride West through these parts. This is the outer fringes of the oldest of the old for my area. Not many officers, and for a relatively short time. The land owner told me he knows exactly where a small group of officers camped, not far from the farm where I found these buttons. Can't wait to check it out.

I just gently dry brushed them, no water. The image of the Buffalo face is really cool. Thanks for looking ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1464500035.159118.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1464500186.193700.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1464500226.619153.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1464500252.900507.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1464500277.840084.webp

Congratulations on your 1st banner, must've felt awesome to scratch a major bucket lister like that off your list, congrats again!

Thanks Chris, I admit I'm really happy to have a banner find under my belt

Wow, when it rains it pours! You want one and three more pop out! Sounds familiar. The buttons again are fabulous and congrats on them making banner. They deserve to be recognized

Thanks Scrappy. Funny how it happens that way, same thing happened to me with Barber dimes. After the first one they seemed to be everywhere.

I'm also a bit late to the party, but a huge congratulations on a well deserved banner with some killer buttons. I didn't know much about them until I saw this post. Excellent job on brushing them off... I really like the patina and contrast on those.

Brad

Thank you OutdoorAdv! I wasn't sure how to clean them so I just dry brushed, and used used nose grease to bring out the high points.

Congrats on your first banner bud, well deserved for such a rare set of buttons

Thanks Jon! I went back today for a bit but no more buttons. I'm going to keep hitting it!

Outstanding!!!
Congrats on your first Banner.... May you have many more!

Now I have to find one, because I showed my wife your buttons, and she's got a thing for Buffaloes....oh the pressure!

Thanks BWD, the Buffalo is a huge part of our local history, such a magnificent animal. Unfortunately hunted to near extinction, but they are making a comeback being raised on farms.

Good luck on your Buffalo quest!

Way to go Man, Those Buttons are Sweet!

So awesome! Such interesting history! :treasurechest::occasion14:
Congrats on making banner!

Congrats on the banner JC! Awesome buttons man... big congrats!

Wow, thanks Iron Patch. A banner vote coming from you means a lot. Anything NWMP is historically significant, and I am beyond thrilled with them. I have three hours tomorrow morning, guess where I'll be?

It's one of those things on my long list of items I would like to find, but close to impossible in my area. I bet there is one here somewhere on the East coast, but probably just one! :)

Incredible! This is my first time seeing one of these. Thanks for sharing!

Really nice recoveries! Those are on my wish list as well. I know they show up on Indian wars sites, just none of mine yet. They look perfect dry brushed, I think that is the only way to clean brass. Congrats on the banner.

Congrats on the banner JC! Awesome buttons man... big congrats!

Colours are brighter, food tastes better! Just kidding, but it is nice to have a banner find.

I bet there is one somewhere out east for you to find, it would be cool to find one out your way.

Thanks again Iron Patch.
