I have been detecting for seven years, I've dug a zillion buttons, many old Customs buttons. I have dreamed of digging a North West Mounted Police button since day one. Today it finally happened, and four of them! It's been a while since I had a dug item really stall my brain out and leave me slack jawed haha.

The NWMP formed in 1873 and existed with that title until 1903. In 1874 287 officers made the famous ride West through these parts. This is the outer fringes of the oldest of the old for my area. Not many officers, and for a relatively short time. The land owner told me he knows exactly where a small group of officers camped, not far from the farm where I found these buttons. Can't wait to check it out.

I just gently dry brushed them, no water. The image of the Buffalo face is really cool. Thanks for looking ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1464500035.159118.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1464500186.193700.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1464500226.619153.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1464500252.900507.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1464500277.840084.webp

Really nice recoveries! Those are on my wish list as well. I know they show up on Indian wars sites, just none of mine yet. They look perfect dry brushed, I think that is the only way to clean brass. Congrats on the banner.

Thank you metalev. I'm sure the Canadian and US police/military groups worked together at times to tame the west. I did find a great Indian Wars hat badge only a few miles from these buttons, so I imagine there some NWMP items down your way.

I dry brushed them carefully after reading a post on button care (by buckleboy I think). There is still some dirt in the fine detail, I might carefully toothpick some more out.

Congrats on getting a Banner. :occasion14: Sorry I am not up on the button world. Glad to see you were recognized by your peers. :notworthy:

Wow! Awesome!! Glad you got banner! Definitely deserved with that find, rare buttons for sure!

I bet there is one somewhere out east for you to find, it would be cool to find one out your way.

Thanks again Iron Patch.

I never say never!

Thanks loco. I'm usually looking for old coins, but I'm learning to appreciate relics a lot as well. Now if I could only learn to appreciate shotgun shells and bottlecaps I'd be all set haha

Those are super-cool! Have a belated banner vote. That has got to be one of the best feelings in the world [of detecting]... finding something that you so want to find with all of your heart. Congratulations. That feeling should keep you warm through the very cold Canadian winter.

Congrats on earning Banner... Knew you would...

Thank you Quindy, I was very happy to dig them. I'm usually a coin guy, but I'm finding myself looking more and more for good relics.
