Found my first button today

Dug this nice flat button today and on the back it says Double Gilt No. 2 maybe. Anyone have any more information on this one?

Nice old button. There are experts who could probably get more specific than I, but from my research on buttons I have found, yours is British made, from the 19th century. There were many different marks used on them, some governed by laws. "Gilt" means plated, usually gold I believe, and the rest of the inscription is intended to help sell the button in what was a competitive market.
