Went back to the same pounded park I have been working at the last 2 weeks. It was tough sledding but I managed to squeeze out 2 more wheat pennies and my first IHP. It's an 1877 which also makes it my oldest dug coin to date. Unfortunately I also gauged it with my digger because it was on the edge of my hole. It's not silver but it was still exciting.

Ouch!!! Nice IHP, especially for a first, but that gouge was worth about $200, or more.

Cats outta the bag I didn't want to be the one to tell him the value of that coin eeeehhhhh!!!!!!! The one thing to remember is a coin dug is considered ED enviornmentally damaged so its value is considerably less That's what they say anyway if that takes some of the sting away!!!!!

Things happen don't kick yourself to much dug coins are not as valuable they say!!!!!! You will find many more great coins and rings. I'm sure it still has value.. Keep her in a nice coin holder and you will always be able to show people your great find. Yeah that is what my wife said lol. I am still excited to add it to my collection and it will be a reminder to be extra careful when digging in old soil especially.

Ahhhhhh!!!! An 1877 for a first IHP dig! Wow!!!! Man, without that gouge, that was a $500-$600 coin. But oh well, it's a nice coin for the collection. Most people will never dig an 1877. Very low mintage and very rare! Even with the shovel kiss, still a great coin. I'll give ya $100 for it [emoji4]

Hey, would you rather find it and gouge it, or never find it at all.
