I decided to go out for a little bit this morning to an old park that years ago had some kind of inn or something there. One of the first things I found was this 1849 large cent. I got a reading of between a silver dime and penny and dug down 7" or so. In the dirt by the side of the hole I saw a coin larger than a quarter and it looks like it said one cent or two cent on it. I thought it was a two cent piece at first , then saw the one cent. It didn't look real at first, probably because I have been looking for one for over 43 years. When I flipped it over, I saw the 1849 and I said yes! Finally! Thanks for looking!!

Sweet find ! Congrats

I've only found three in my seven yrs of detecting. Very rare and hard to find around here

Great find man, found my first one this year as well! 1852. When you think of all that has happened historically since these coins were lost it is kinda amazing.

Thanks for all your comments. This coin might have been dropped by a troop from a near by fort, the town started in the 1880's.
