I ventured down to Charlotte today for a hunt with Carolina Tom and Smittyman. It pretty much started raining when we started detecting, and stopped raining when we quit for the day. We hunted two sites that Smittyman had found. One he had hunted and found a merc and "1600s" buckle. Today not much to speak of was found. The second site was a large tract that at one time had a house on it. Smittyman had never hunted it because it was overgrown with grass and weeds. It wasn't perfect today but we could hunt quite a few areas. About an hour in I got my first good target. Normally I wouldn't have dug it (97 on the Deus) because you don't actually find silver dollars. But from the very first pass of my coil and every pass after that I got only 97s.....nothing higher or lower. Also, when I lifted my coil the signal disappeared after only lifting about 2" so I was hoping it wasn't a can. Long story short, after hacking through some roots I found the Morgan had sunk through the rich soil and come to rest face down in the wet clay layer. That's how it is here in NC where there is a lot of clay. It acts like bedrock when looking for gold.

Can't begin to describe the excitement when I saw it. And to have found it with two friends.....special! It's a feeling I sincerely hope that everyone on here who hasn't found one gets to experience. Enjoy the photos and good luck hunting. I almost forgot........Tom didn't really cry real tears and was very happy for me.

Here is a pic of Beez and Smittyman.

Smittyman is leaning on the CTX chatting on the phone... as usual, and Beez is feverishly digging up some can slaw.

Maybe Smittyman is calling that realtor to see if she has leads for him!

A find this nice simply must be shown up top!

Just because it's not gold is no reason to ignore such a rare find!

I voted banner.

So...........Smittyman is talking on the phone and you're taking pictures with your phone. Leaving me as the only digging targets.

Your kind words are all I need. Seeing all the wonderful finds on here including rare and valuable my Morgan doesn't rate a banner find.

Well, I am glad that my words add to your enjoyment of such a wonderful find. But, as to it not being worthy of banner?

Let's just have everyone post up all the silver dollars they've found in all the years they've been hunting. Something tells
me there will be a few but there will be many. many more posters who would admit they've never even seen one in person, let alone
dig up one of their own.

Banner I say! :)

that photo looks exactly like when you guys were at the farm field in Saugerties, NY----- you diggin' pulltabs and Smit man on the phone. seriously_____(not) you are starting to get annoying with all your silver finds, since you couldn't find a blade of grass in a front yard when you and Smit were here in the Socialist Empire of Cuomostan in October. LMFAO. I got a '62 and '53 Rosie last night-----in a box of dimes. between you and the Deus I expect your next post will be how you dug an iron strongbox (FILLED WITH 8 REALES AND THE QUEEN'S JEWELS). YOU ARE ON A SERIOUS ROLL.

Hey Now! I didn't find a large cent while up there (still hoping to find one some day) I grant you. But if you remember I did find some cool stuff. I have to get caught up with some work I've been putting off the last few days. I hope to get out again Thursday or Friday. I came across a site that used to have some sort of factory on it. Probably built in the 60s and they tore it down. What has me excited is that they just recently dug up all the blacktop parking lot leaving a nice dirt parking lot. There may or may not be anything there but it's worth a look if I can get permission to give it a shot.

You are on a roll Jay. Congrats on the very large silver and I hear you got 5 more silvers at another site. I have been on the want a gold ring roll(3 for year) and haven't given the silver much though. Will be different when deer season is over and I can get in the woods safely. A potential spot for a 1800 home hunt has a deer stand right in the middle. The wagon trail is 3 miles long and goes right by what is left of a stone bridge and grist mill. Hearing to many gun shots to risk it now.

Be careful out there, John! No treasure out there we'll ever dig is worth our lives. Remember you're in NC, so wait a week after deer season is officially over and then you should be safe.
