I'm not sure what it is but it is coming up under gold on my Garrett Ace 250. I have found a couple of copper little wire pieces throughout the object by carefully using a drimmel to sand off some of the layers.

Salt water corrodes most metals. I think we can rule out gold even if your detector says it.. My Ace 250 gold range is also the range for pop tops, nickels and pennies so its meaningless.

My best guess would be some type of old metal corroded fishing lure or lead weight.

Hopeful for what? Gold? Hopeful for copper? Its definitely not gold. The only thing to be hopeful for is that its an artifact from the 1715 fleet but its most likely damaged too much to identify or be of any value. In the future do not use a dremel on possible artifacts.

You didnt mention silver but any pawn shop could tell you if it was silver. Could it be lead? Aluminum? Hard to tell by the picture. You can rule out gold or copper. The wire loop may be copper.
