Back at the silver farm after two days off, I got off to a good start; inches apart, my first two signals were a 37 and 18S wheat. I knew there would have to be silver around too, and I didn't have to wait long for it. First, this 18 Merc, later a 20 (very worn). I mixed in this 38D Buffalo and 18, 20 and 34 wheats for good measure. One of the owners came along and asked if I found anything good and I said I had found some coins from the teens and thirties (hadn't found the 20 wheat yet). It was then she told me that the area I was in used to be a tennis court used by their campers! The hunt was shortened by a thunderstorm, so I'll head back to Wimbledon tomorrow in search of more...
One family of campers was there, at their cottage that dates back eighty or so years. I met some of them Monday and told them that I had found a silver ring that might have been in their family and was hoping that it would be recognized; apparently, there is an eighty something woman who has been at the cottage every year of her life. They were a bit snooty on Monday, offended that I would dig without permission; I informed them that the owners HAD given me permission. Today, I brought the rings for the older woman to see; she didn't recognize them and so they were returned to me. One of her daughters got even snootier with me and I told her that I wasn't getting into it with her. "We've been renting this since 1924." I wanted to tell her that the OWNERS had owned it far longer, but I resisted. I was trying to be kind and return what might have been a family ring and I get that crap. I'm really hoping to find some 18K with a zillion diamonds (after they leave); they won't get the same courtesy again.
