Found silver in the "HUNTED OUT" Yankee camp!!

Went back to that hard hunted yank camp/house place today and my second, that's right second signal I dug was this 1835 capped bust half dime.To bad it has been holed, the land owner told me that Indians that fought for the north camped here, that might explain the hole, I heard they wore coins like jewelery. I also found another piece of a spur, this time the part with the roller. It also looks like the spoon handle I found has some strange looking markings on it, looks almost like Cherokee. This place has alot of big iron on it, that may be why no one has hunted this area very well. I bet I have removed about four, five gallon buckets full of big iron from this place. Thanks for looking. :hello2:

Very nice, congrats on the half dime! That is nice to know a little about the history of that site (Indians). :icon_thumright:

Very, very nice finds peanut! WTG on the half dime. Persitence pays off. If you take the time to dig the iron, you find the good stuff. The "Iron Brigade" bunch are proof positive of this technique.

Very cool finds , WTG :icon_thumright:

Btw that is cherokee

Thumbs up! I appreciate someone who takes the time to clean up a sight for the good stuff under all the junk iron. My 1800's house has a lot of junk iron too. And after about three 5 gallon buckets of iron, I finally found a 1942 merc. 2 day ago. Hope you find more silver. HH

Killer finds , But I don't think your spoon handle has Cherokee writing on it.jmho............HH

cherokee_syllabary.gifVery cool. It is possible the cherokee made the spoon but am not matching up enough in Sequoia's syllabary to be sure see what you think?. Here it is. Very cool finds and does not look hunted out yet?

Great save! The spoon does not have Cherokee, but rather just a hallmarks (British perhaps?), all in cartouches.

Cheers,

Buckles

It's a good possability considering the area. Knowing that some of pikes Cherokees went through there

WooHoo, congrats on the bust half dime! Still searching for mine.

I believe the anchor hallmark is for the English city of Birmingham. Take a look at this link:
