Found something but can't find it ;)

I have a signal in a pretty wide area in the garden. I have already dug a simular hole as in the video, right next to this one, but found nothing. I have a signal with 0 disc and max disc. I'm using a Sov GT and I got it two days ago so not sure what it can be, here is a video I hope someone could tell me if it's worth digging this one or not as I will probably mess up the lawn quite a bit.

Here's the vid, I don't remember if it's the one with max or min disc but they sound pretty much the same. Btw I did fill in the hole now, so hopefully you'll tell me it aint worth digging ;)

We have no gas, and I'm pretty sure there is no wires or pipes below that spot...

Hi, I'm not familiar with your detector but can you give some more info. What sort of signal number are you getting? Low conductor, like iron ...or high conductor like silver? Does your detector display a number? Does it indicate a depth?

My opinion, for your own confidence (and maybe even sanity) .. I would carefully dig a PLUG of about 8" to 10" diameter and about 4" to 6" deep. set this aside and see if target is here or still in the ground. You can repair the patch in the lawn carefully when you are done.

If the signal goes deeper than 12" it's probably a large piece of iron ..possibly a relic? or maybe junk.

Hope this helps. HH Joe

There is no display so all I have to go by is the sound. I believe iron is nulling with my settings. I did plug 2 holes, one about 8x8 and one 8x12 and both about 8 deep, but nothing...

Re: Found something but can't find it ;)

Usually only smaller pieces of iron will be nulled out. Something large will come through.

Use a shovel and try going a bit deeper. I have found large brass dishes (like an ashtray for cigarettes) 12" to 14" deep.

I know that my confidence would suffer if I did not try to discover the source of the signal.

Polarbeer;

If the target is very large, you might be de-sensitising your detector by using short swings over it, so the size of the target may seem smaller than it really is.

You could try this---

Get some golf tees. Move your detector away from the target to areas where there is no signal, then approach the target sideways, and when you get a signal, stick a golf tee in the ground at the center bar of your coil. Repeat this, moving in a circle around the target. This should give you a better idea of the actual size of it.

Then go over an area of no-signal again, and move your coil over the center of the golf tee area at a hight of 2 or three feet. At the center, lower the coil toward the ground, and see at what height the signal starts. This will give you an idea of the depth and mass of the target.

Sounds like a low conductor like aluminum and it's large. I would bet on a soda can or something else large and deep. In order to pinpoint accurately. Flip your toggle switches into all metal and the other into pinpoint then raise your coil about 12" in the air if you are picking the signal up with the coil raised this high you know it is a large object. With the coil raised this high you should be able narrow the signal enough that using the X technique would easily find the center of the target.

I use a GT also and would skip that HUGE target until just before winter when all my other sites have been hunted.

Swing a Minelab and believe baby!

from the location through the swing of the beeps it seems to be a iron pipe or fallen street sign, long and skinny and deep and not worth digging

** I don't like the way you are swinging that sovereign.

If you need to swing back & Forth that far and fast to get a signal pass it up.

If you can shorten your swing to just as Wide as your coil
and much much slower you will be able to narrow down where to dig.

Once you have done this Turn to all Metal
and swing even Slower I circle half way & Swing again.

Once you have narrowed it down Fruther

Slower your swing & Back off as Swinging

When the sound Disappears Keep swinging & Move Forward till you first hear it again.

Then dig under the Tip.

Also Make sure you are using Auto Sense.
All the way Counterclockwise & Clicked in.

It sort of sounds like Ground Conditions.
(But it may be your speed Is Confusing the Sensors)
I'd be going Nutz. :P

Just trying to help the best I can without Being there
