Found this eroding out of an arroyo washout due to all the rain we are getting. At first I just thought that it was a regular vertebra but after cleaning it off I could not believe what I was seeing. I told my wife that I think that we have something pretty special, don't you think. After doing a little research I am pretty sure it's a ''Stott's Point. From what I gather Stott's point are associated with the buffalo hunters from the Alberta Canada area down into Montana and the Dakota's.

Awesome find! There have been several of them found, but they are obviously very rare.

Right in the thoracic vertebrae. Def a kill shot wonder why they did not retrieve it? Very nice find.

At most kill sites the focus tended toward processing the meat quickly, and then getting to the hides. If they killed a lot of animals they didn’t appear to really worry about salvaging points. (The shaft was probably a lot harder to replace than the actual point.)

More pics? This may be the first post I keep going back to the top to look at it. Your point comes with a undeniable story unlike 99% of them which you can never know how they wound up, wether they were drops, misses, hits, on what animal... so on

Reason I asked is I saw a similar item decades ago in a museum, but the bone was human.
I saw in an antique mall in Rock Springs, Wyoming an stone point in bone for sale. I recall I tried to photo it on my phone, but it was in a glass case and to much glare on the glass made it hard to get a good shot of it. I can't remember the asking price, but it was up there in the 4 figures I believe. That was about a couple years ago and it might still be there if and when I go by there again.

I like my meat in plastic!:headbang: This is a great artifact!

Excellent find & a no brainer BANNER!

Truly an awe & imagination inspiring find.

Once in a lifetime find IMO .

Congratz ( should be 10 X banner ).

That is beyond amazing. A moment frozen in time. I'm so glad to see this up on banner; otherwise, I would have missed it and not had the opportunity to see such a spectacular find. The photo just leaves you considering the wonder of it all for this particular find and what else is out there waiting to be discovered!

Well we better put that rock and bone combo on the banner shelf........congrats. WOW.

Just amazing! Great find

This has to be one of the best finds I have seen posted in my 11 yrs. on here. Glad to see it at the top. Congrats.

Thank you for the banner vote, I really did not expect it. It is just the enjoyment of finding something from many years ago. You never know what you'll find. We only found some chips other than the vertebra.

Man that’s incredible. How do you luck out and find such a thing? I don’t even know how to go about finding points other than wandering the woods lol

Congratulations on making the banner! That is one awesome find and one that I would consider to be a find of a lifetime.

Now that a museum piece!!

Very nice, thanks for sharing

What an amazing eyeball find!

Congrats on BANNER #2!
Dave

That truly is a special find. Maybe the most exciting and intriguing thing that I've ever seen posted on Tnet. I can't imaging you ever parting with it but I have no doubt that there are some wealthy collectors that would pay very big money for it. Congratulations!
