Relic Hunting
On my first hunt since January, after digging my fourth copper on the year, I uncovered this ambrotype picture from 1855-65. I went to the town hall today to try and see who owned that property and maybe find living relatives. I'm going to have to budget more time for that effort :laughing7: Thanks for looking.

Yeah K1, that's a shoe plate or guard. Kept the shoes from wearing away too quickly. I find 'em all the time, they sound great. You think you have a coin.
Thanks. Good to know that for the future if I get another one. :)

Thank you very much everyone, Yeah Argetium, I bet they didn't smile because it was easier to stay still for the picture. Did you notice her delicate gloves?

No , I didn't see the gloves at all - thanks for that ! Just an amazing relic really - I guess I've seen a faded daguerratype (spelling) on
here - but maybe just one in the years I've been on this site .

How awesome!!! I wish I had a hole like that to hunt, that picture is AMAZING!!

Hello charlives. Real nice digs! Nice LC and misc items. Never found anything quite as personal as that photo. Please keep us posted on your research of those folks...HH. C9

That is a really unique find! That's awesome!

Awesome finds. Love the picture. How cool will it be if you can find the relatives!

This is amazing! I never would have guessed that a photograph could survive that well in the ground for so long. :hello2:

CHARLIVES, Very Sweet find. With the picture it does make it a MORE Awesome!! Keep Swinging!!!

I really appreciate all the nice comments everyone. Yeah Stripeythecrab, it is actually a seriously thin layer of picture on glass, and there was another piece a glass on top of that. I never saw one but my friend says Matthew Brady took pics like this. I don't know if that is true.

I must say that is one of the coolest cellar hole finds i have ever seen:headbang:

This should be on the banner and ill vote for it..
I could find out who lived there right from my computer..The only problem is i would need the exact location:laughing7:Yeah i know...

I hunt hundreds of Cellars and never seen a photo of the inhabitants..I have found frames..How the heck did it survive?

That's gotta be one of the greatest finds , to step back into history and actually see who was there possibly owning some of the items you could find! Please do let us know if and when you find anything else out about the owners or the photograph!! Thanks for posting!!

That is so cool. I always enjoy finding something that you can possibly tie to the people that lived at the site. That would be awesome if you could get it back to the living relatives. Great finds!

It's like they gave you personal permission to hunt there.
Or haunt......
Killer cool find!
Carl

Didn't Don's ground found daguerreotype make banner a few years back? Definitely a cool find!

Thanks everyone, yeah the photo is from 1855-65. That was the only years of this particular photo technology. Everything else I'm digging there is from those same years.
