Relic Hunting
On my first hunt since January, after digging my fourth copper on the year, I uncovered this ambrotype picture from 1855-65. I went to the town hall today to try and see who owned that property and maybe find living relatives. I'm going to have to budget more time for that effort :laughing7: Thanks for looking.

Thanks Gary, It rang up in the 50s, so I guess it's gold leaf? It has the color of gold.

That Is Sweet!!! the Spoon Bowl And Other Relics Look Much Older Than The Picture. The House Must Have Been In Their Family For Some Time. Thanks for Sharing!

Thank you ATPro5... yeah, that rat tail pewter spoon is older, as is the coin. The cellar hole is the most perfectly preserved I've seen.

Super cool and really great of you to look for the folks who may be kin to the people in the picture.

Got Any Pictures Of The Cellar Hole?

Very cool, not very often can you put a face to a site !! :notworthy:

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

That old pic is absolutely AWESOME ! to have a personal connection to the site is so special , good luck researching it !
pictures in those days were a rather grim undertaking - very different from the "selfies" and other cyber images of today .

The people in the picture remind me of some people I saw in another old picture! I didn't know who they were either! Really neat find in great condition! I hope you find some of their descendants, that would be a double banner if there ever was one!

VERY COOL FIND!!!!
I am going to vote banner for this one.......
I've never seen a find like this.....an old picture, possibly being the people who lived there....
Congrats!!

i have one of those cellar holes close to me but the sides have caved in. Awesome job...

Thank you very much everyone, Yeah Argetium, I bet they didn't smile because it was easier to stay still for the picture. Did you notice her delicate gloves?

I,ve never tried actually digging out a old cellar...but I know where there is lots of them.

That's amazing stuff. I found a object just like the dotted thing on top of the spoon in your picture. Do you or anyone else have any idea what it is? image-3954831506.webp

Yeah K1, that's a shoe plate or guard. Kept the shoes from wearing away too quickly. I find 'em all the time, they sound great. You think you have a coin.

Thank you Jim, Most of them have sides that are caved in, or completely caved it. I never actually go into the hole. Usually too much garbage in there....buckets, modern dumping etc.
