Waiting patiently with you to find out.

hope you didn't have to leave it to deteriorate

Nice find there ! I don't know the age of it- but i would guess 75 years or so .

I think its military related... ??

WW-1 era I believe.

I believe it's quite a bit older than 75 years (around 1938) and is from a Calvary Supply Wagon or pulled a Cannon . I feel it's at 100 years old or better or around 1913 . Do your best to at least keep it in the shape it's in now and try to gently restore it no matter what the age . If the leather has mold or mildew you'll need to clean it . So far I've tried many ways and I 'm not sure on the best way to keep leather mold and mildew from coming back after it developed . I've had good results using saddle soap first and then when the leather is still moist or damped through out freezing it solid for a few weeks and then thawing it out to dry and repeating the saddle soap . That seems to kill most if not all of the fungus that causes it . NICE PIECE ! Woodstock

yes, US means military - it never means Ullysseses Swift ( great great grandpa of Taylor)

Great find Bounty Hunter Girl.

Wow that's awesome!

nice find congrats HH

wonder what else is in the barn(??)

Yes, Army surplus harness. Don't use neats foot oil unless you can find the pure stuff. The stuff you buy at the feed store usually has been cut with kerosene or some such, and it will ruin the already weakened threads in the sewing. Saddle soap is good. I'd check the internet and see if there is anything listed for preserving old leather, that might me easier than saddle soap. Did you get a collar with the harness?

yes I found a collar too but I think its too far gone...

Wow,

Great find, don't try and restore it yourself... You could do more harm than good. Take it to a professional antique restorer to get restored. I imagine it will need some conditioning so it won't dry out anymore.
Again, if its genuine and not a replica could be a great find !!

Keep @ it and HH !!

wonder what else is in the barn(??)

I found a old cash register "empty" some feed bags and old tea pot... That was about it...

Definitely not a reproduction, the old owners of the property was a ww1 corporal... and the later generation of the property faught in ww2...

I'm thinking Spanish American War - WWI time frame.

We also found artifacts from both wars, paper items, rank patches, Sterling silver aviator wing pin, buttons and ect... "all undug" i can post that stuff if you guys want.. :-)
