I've used a Fisher Gold Bug II, though now I have a cheaper Garrett model.

Looks like a possible silver sulfide mineral, not iron pyrite. Iron pyrite is distinguished by little square crystals.
Iron pyrite?

Minerals always image best in direct sunlight.
How heavy is it? Looks like potentially Galena, or a Silver Sulfide. Or even a mix of the two. Not iron pyrite as mentioned below. Iron pyrite is distinguished by little square crystals. PM me and I'll help you if you wanna check & maybe process it easy.

Find a comparably sized mostly pure quartz rock. Then compare the weights. If it's Galena, you can process lead out with a campfire basically.

In appearance it looks more like common Arsenopyrite than Galena.

Although most people are somewhat familiar with Iron Pyrite there are many more common pyrites and most of them are silvery gray like your example.

Another bunch of guesses without a streak or hardness test. Do them and get back to us! Still, looks like pyrite to me.
