Went shell searching on the north shore of Oahu with my girlfriend and her mother who have lived on the island all their lives and we found a stone which neither of them can identify.

Highly polished for a beach find. As in tumbled in a tumbler.

Honest to god, my girlfriend picked it up right off the shore.

I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard MrMikeBergstrom! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country). You might also consider adding your state (or country) to your displayed profile (SETTINGS -> EDIT PROFILE) so if you ask a question, etc. - people may have more success helping you (if necessary)...

I'm not questioning where you found it. Beach shops, novelty stores, sell the little net bags of shells and polished stones for the kids. I suspect some child dropped that. It looks like petrified wood.

The Ocean...The World's Largest...Rock Tumbler!

I would say what you have is a Banded Agate which has been slowly Rock Tumbled and Polished in the Ocean.

Nice find...Would make a nice piece of jewelry for you or your Girlfriend!

Looks like it was organic. I like the tooth or shell idea. Also Try agatized coral nodule. It may be agatized coral or wood - or some other fossilized organic bit.
