I believe you may be right... Looks like it would fit perfetly around the stock and barrel.. I have similar ones on my modern day flintlock... If that's not it somebody in here will surely know for sure...

I agree with baywalker, looks like a rifle barrel ring but could be from flintlock., maybe getting a 100% true measurement could help alittle more all comes down to the size.. Really kewl find!! :occasion14:

It is definitely a brass barrel-band. Specifically, it is from a US Model-1841 "Mississippi" Rifle. (Important note: The Confederates manufactured some copies of it.) I still own an exact-duplicate Reproduction of a US Model-1841 Mississippi from my years as a civil war battle re-enactor, so I checked your barrel-band with mine's, for confirmation of the ID that I've given you.
