Do you know what it could be?

I agree a concretion where the insides weathered out.

Often these are called 'paint pots' and similar verbiage, but I don't know if these have been scientifically proven to be anything but concretions.

I've heard both from the few people I've shared this with. So could I say it's the possible "paint pot" just naturally formed?

If you call it what it truly is, which is a concretion, then there is not much doubt to your colleagues that you are spot on accurate. If you talk about paint pots to those same people, your credibility comes into question right away as that is incorrect terminology--just uneducated, misleading layman's terms. Consider what I've just told you and decide what you should call it.

Thanks - to be fair I think being open to both thought processes would be where it's at. I wouldn't say explaining what it's been shown to be as you mentioned and then the idea that these were used as paint pots (which have been found too) isn't something to make someone think I was uneducated. Thanks for your input.
