Four Sets of Two's.......

Twas a beautiful day here today. Nice and sunny and in the 50's. Terri and I met up at a site that we had been to before, only right behind it was a green field. The owner of the place had mentioned to her that after plowing the field in the past, he had seen miscellaneous items tilled up, so we hunted there first. Very first hit was a wheat penny. Second hit was an odd looking tag with a number. Third hit...another wheat. Kinda slowed down for about an hour and then another tag with a different number. Other than half a horse shoe and a piece of lead, nothing else worth mentioning. Will have to say that hunting on plowed ground is really difficult on the ankles! :P
We went over to the next pasture looking for another well that's suppose to be close, but didn't find it. Still had some daylight so we moved over to the site that we had hunted before. Lots of miners tags and reeds were found here last visit and found two more of each today too. Also found two different compact pieces and another wheat, 1917.

I don't have a clue what the tags with the numbers are...here's a pic of the backs.. Any ideas?

Re: Four Sets of Two's.......

Nice digs! Even though I'm a Brooklyn boy, I saw those and said to myself, "those are cow tags" :) How the heck I would know that I have no idea. Don't see too many cows around here unless they're on a milk carton :D I know it wouldn't be easy, but I'd sure love to hunt a plowed field like that. You just never know... ;) HH!

Yep, where there's wheats, there's silver,,, they are sneaky little rascals though. ;D
Still wishing you all the luck in finding them and that site looks like a really nice place to hunt regardless of what ya find...
Continued Good luck, & Happy hunting~

P.S.> Haven't seen hide nor hair of the daffodils around here yet.

Love the daffy's also...those are cow ear tags...nice that you all could get out and dig...

Re: Four Sets of Two's.......

Wow I forgot what daffodils looked like :D. It'll be quite a while before we see those again. Great job on the field, what year were the first 2 wheats? Enjoy your weather!

Re: Four Sets of Two's.......

Nice, keep looking, hey the cows dropped their tags maybe they also dropped their milk money.

Nice post, Nana!

Looks like you'll be busy at that spot for quite awhile.

Loved the flower pic. I needed that.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: Four Sets of Two's.......

Alright! You finally got your cow tags! I think somebody else got all
the silver at this spot but you'd think we'd at least find a spoon or
something. WTG!

Re: Four Sets of Two's.......

Great finds, Nana!! Yep, those are the old timey cow tags. Thanks for the reminder, gotta do some piercing to give my youngsters some earrings. Daffodils and those snowdrops are blooming all over here too. Again, it looks like y'all had a grand time out.

Re: Four Sets of Two's.......

Hi Nana
Saw your post, and it reminded me of something I dug up last summer. Didn't have a clue what it was till the replies to your post. I guess it's a cowtag. Growing up in the city back east, never seen one. But we have a match. Only mine has a name one the back. Found mine in a soccer field in Utah.

Re: Four Sets of Two's.......

I know what you are saying about plowed fields Nana, I have permission to hunt over 500 acre's. so far it has produced nothing but scrap iron, I only hunt there when I have nowhere else to go.
Great pictures by the way. Keep up the good work.

Re: Four Sets of Two's.......

Nver dug a cow tag myself. I have dug some of those brass metal deals with the slots in them. Have no idea what they were used for.
