I know this is going to sound dumb but here goes. Where do you guys buy your frames? Do you have others frame your stuff for you or do them yourselves? I have noticed a lot of you on here have very beautiful frames! Another question I have is when you write on your artifacts what kind of pen do you use? I usually keep mine in boxes marked with the place I found them. But my boxes are not a good way to store them I noticed a few broke pieces the other day going thru some. Also are there any good books anyone would recommend about stone tools not points or knives and are there any on just beads ?

And I also have a question about this point from my grandfathers stuff . Where would it be from and what kind is it?

fill that comes with the frames can be spray painted easy

this is a popular size
i order a carton which is one dozen of this size then i usually spray the backing with red or turquoise spray paint
i do have some nicer wood ones that Russy got me and i think he got them at hobby lobby

these here are the 12"X16" size and real affordable at the price shown here which is $5.21 each

Your Price: $62.50 (I hope this is not considered spam...i have only posted for info purposes)

Rusty-these come in lots of sizes and thickness from 3/4" up to 2" deep and the padding comes with and is included in the price

Thanks Brother Larson!! Did you read what Steve V. Posted yesterday? He said the foam is not good for bone pieces!! Instead of foam, he uses velvet. I think he said velvet, it's posted from yesterday. You have some great bone finds that I'd hate to see ruined. You probably have this info. already, but just incase you do not, I figured I'd throw it in. The 12x16 that I bought last weekend was slightly overpriced. Lol! No need to cry over spilled milk, is it? I think I'll check hobby lobby out in the morning. I'm headed to VA. any way. That's the only one close to me. My town is pretty small, and by the looks of the larger towns, I hope mine stays small. Thanks again, and hopefully a NC post with frames full of Mandan spirit will be up really soon!!

I have bought and used Riker's also, but I make my own. Herewith is one that I made.

If anyone is interested, I could make some to order. I can make them any size that is within reason. They are an inch in depth, and the partitions are optional.

Send me a PM and give me an idea of the price. Does it come with a lid or is it open?

Looks like you got plenty of answers on the frames, but didn't see where anyone answered your second question.

One tip I would add is if you need to keep small thin points in place, you can add a spot of elmers to keep them in place, or add pieces of cardboard under the foam padding to tighten things up a bit or a bunch.

For the second question,I am not going to speculate on the type, but from the pic, it looks like it is made of obsidian, (volcanic glass) and that material was commonly used and is mostly found in the Pacific North West.
