The subject coin has been in my family for many years. We have no history on it and until just now, I had no idea what it was - or its value. Thanks to you folks here it has been identified as a French Crown circa 1783.

I would like to verify, as I understood from one of the posts, that it is indeed a French Crown.

The date on the "shield side" of the coin is 1783, the lettering follows: "SIT NOMEN DOMINI (upside down L) BENEDICTUM"

On the "head" side of the coin are the letters "LUD XVI D G FR ET NAV REX.

I'll try to get a picture and post it. Any one care to comment and perhaps fill in the blanks?

Thanks

Yes, exactly! Thanks for the reply. Is it worth anything? (not that I'm going to sell it)

For current value, I'd suggest you go to Ebay and look up this coin then go to Completed Listings for recent sales in various conditions then you can tell us what's its worth.
