The subject coin has been in my family for many years. We have no history on it and until just now, I had no idea what it was - or its value. Thanks to you folks here it has been identified as a French Crown circa 1783.
I would like to verify, as I understood from one of the posts, that it is indeed a French Crown.
The date on the "shield side" of the coin is 1783, the lettering follows: "SIT NOMEN DOMINI (upside down L) BENEDICTUM"
On the "head" side of the coin are the letters "LUD XVI D G FR ET NAV REX.
I'll try to get a picture and post it. Any one care to comment and perhaps fill in the blanks?
Thanks
