Thrusday Finds

Got out this morning before the rain, hunted an 0ld school house ground, school was torn down years ago now there is a community center building where part of the school once stood.

My detecting partner got two mercury dimes, buffalo nickel, war nickel, and wheat pennies.

My finds where good a few pennies, rosette, hub cap from kids pedal care, Boy Scout neckerchief slide, (in the photo to the right of the neckerchief slide is another slide), Tootsie car, Stewardess wings (alone the bottom it says junior airline stewardess), these use to be given out on planes to kids not sure if the still do these are metal the last ones I saw headed out were plastic, and a folded over tax token.

Of the two neckerchief slides, the one on the right is of course a boy scout slide, the one on the left is a Weblo slide. (May not be spelled correctly). The "Weblo's" were the in between group of guys who were between a cub scout and boy scout. Don't know if they have those anymore. A good all around day of hunting, I like days like that.

Hal, that is a great haul from a site that was obviously child friendly! I think your Tootsietoy is an AMC Gremlin, you can compare it to photos on line to be sure. Cheers, Sub 8-)

It's cast on the inside Tootsie USA Rabbit, looks like a 72 VW Rabbit. Still has all four wheels cleaned up rather good.

Well done,, I really don't need another metal detector but if I were to get one,, I'm leaning towards buying an Equinox 800.

I hope the long rambling review makes sense, glad to do.

I would be glad to offer a comparison of the Nox with my other detectors.

First I will compare the Nox 800 with my AT Pro. The AT is great detector that you can take out of the box and right off start detecting there is very slight learning curve with the AT. One of the biggest draw backs I see with the AT is the coil and speaker connection, it can be a real challenge to connect the coil and headphones. There is just no room plus you have to really be careful that you do not bend the pins in the connector. The stock coil on the AT has good depth, the 5 X 8 coil for the AT is really good in trash areas and tight spaces. I would like to be able to change the coils on the max as easy as on the Nox (more on that in the Nox review. Overall the AT Pro is great detector, if I had to give the Nox up I would hands down take the AT Pro.

AT Max, hate to say but the Max is the worse detector I have ever used. The sounds on the Max are awful constant beep-pop-beep-beep there is no distinction between penny sound and a quarter sound. I like to not have to look at the screen to see what the target is. I just wish Garrett had put a little more thought into the Max, not sure who they where trying to compare the Max to Deus or Minelab but they sure missed the boat in my opinion. If I had to give up the Nox it would not be for a AT Max, it would be toss up between Nokta and the AT Pro. I have several people ask me why I want sell the Max I still use the Max it’s got good depth and is good back up to ne Nox (my wife has laid clam on the AT Pro, I would have to buy her an AT Pro so I just hang on to both Garrett machines LOL)

The Nox 800, one of the best detectors I have ever owned period. It’s machine that has unbelievable depth, great beach machine, very stable no beep-pop-beep-beep like you get with the AT Max, the Nox has a bit of learning curve anyone thinking seriously about purchasing the nox I suggest going to MineLad site and down load the manual and read cover to cover and least twice. It’s a nickel whore it seems to really lock onto nickels, pull tabs will give you a similar VID but after some use you noticed there is a difference in pull tab and nickel. The back light screen is a great feature, and the different modes you can hunt in. I like the like that majority of time you do not have to ground balance just turn on an go. The Nox is loaded with features that you find on high end machines. Changing coils is a breeze with the way the connector plugs into the back of the machine, headphones are the same, change from wired head phone to wireless in seconds. Stock coil on the Nox has great depth I have found tiny objects such as backs to earrings at 6”, quarters at 10-12”. I have read reviews that say the Nox is nose heavy with the stock coil, I have not found that with mine, I’ve hunted 8 10 hour days with no problems. Also the battery last much longer than what is stated in the literature.

If I where to rate the AT Pro, AT Max, and the Nox on a scale of 1-10. I would rate the AT-Pro at 6, the Max at 4 and the Nox at 8

Forgot to add when I got my Nox got it in April 2018, I have had the nox about 8 1/2 months
