Got off work early today and didn't have time to look for new sites, so I went to one that I've been trying to find for a while now but couldn't pinpoint the house until today! This place is actually my great, great, great, great, great grandfathers homestead. I dug what looked to be a coin ,a couple of buttons and a cufflink. When I pulled the button out of the cornfield I thought that it is pretty big, still had dirt clumped to it. I got home washed the mud off still didn't see anything, so I put a little soap on it and gently rubbed between my finger and thumb,as soon as I saw the eagle I stopped cleaning ! I was wondering what to do for bringing out more detail without damaging it any further. Sorry that is all the better the picture is, but was afraid to clean it any more. It however was hit by a plow. It says on it "March the fourth 1789 memorable era."

Re: G.W. Button

Definitely an Inaugural and even sweeter coming from an ancestor's homestead!!

Re: G.W. Button

What do you mean? Did they counterfeit them? It is an eagle with sun over top of the head. The back is plain with no shank, but you can see where one was. Although it is thin. The circumference is 1 5/16". It is still a little dirty. If I clean it further I will show better pictures.

Welcome to the GW Club! Hogge :notworthy:

Re: G.W. Button

It is a good club to join! I can't see more cleaning doing much for it, and would definitely not do anything to risk the current condition. Way too many people don't know when to stop, or how to get there in the first place. The bottom line is it looks like you are there so get yourself a display case and enjoy.... or do like Hogge and take the best pic you can to cash in that chip! :laughing7:

I actually do have a buyer for my other GW, but I am going to keep it for display. Believe it or not. :icon_thumleft: Not a bad price I just got for my RR-7 IP. I held it for too long. Got some nice pics of it for my wall display. Was hoping for a private sale at $2-2,500, but went for the EBAY sale. My sister just sold her 1800, Sheldon-212 LC, for $1,202.00 on EBAY. Was dug last fall.
