Got off work early today and didn't have time to look for new sites, so I went to one that I've been trying to find for a while now but couldn't pinpoint the house until today! This place is actually my great, great, great, great, great grandfathers homestead. I dug what looked to be a coin ,a couple of buttons and a cufflink. When I pulled the button out of the cornfield I thought that it is pretty big, still had dirt clumped to it. I got home washed the mud off still didn't see anything, so I put a little soap on it and gently rubbed between my finger and thumb,as soon as I saw the eagle I stopped cleaning ! I was wondering what to do for bringing out more detail without damaging it any further. Sorry that is all the better the picture is, but was afraid to clean it any more. It however was hit by a plow. It says on it "March the fourth 1789 memorable era."

The shank is missing. I decided to clean it and put a thin film of olive oil on it,but then washed it off with warm soapy water. I am now going to leave it alone Iron Patch. When the wife and I get a better camera I will update a picture of it. Thanks for the BANNER votes and comments.

Olive oil is for salad...not buttons! Very nice find there!

Congrats on the Banner!

It does work but I'd rather control how much patina comes off because I prefer to leave most of it on. Sometimes you just have to thin it a little for the best result.

Button came out real nice! Glad to see it up top! Congrats.....Hogge :headbang:
