Garret at propointer and DEUS problems

Correct, locked at Tx power 2 if using frequency offset (+/-) for 8, 12, or 18 Khz and locked at Tx power 3 for 4 khz ops period (you can't freq offset 4 khz).

Actually I have been wondering about this because Andy's book and the XP manual have conflicting information for frequency offset. Andy's book says TX power is at 2 for frequency offset. From the manual page 39: When you choose a FREQ SHIFT, TX POWER is fixed to level 3 ( TX 3).
It would be nice to know for sure which is correct. I know that one hunt I used frequency offset for most of the day and it seemed my coil battery drained faster than usual, so maybe it is TX 3.

THATS WHAT THE BOOK SAYS!It also says dont do unless you must.

Agreed. I have managed to avoid using frequency shift altogether and hopefully will never have to use it unless I find myself in a last resort EMI situation. Just switch frequency wholesale, if you can. Like I've said before, not sure I have ever been in a situation where I've had to stick to just one of the base frequencies.

I have the same issue as well. I wish XP would come out with a pointer or fix the issue in release 4.0.

Heath said the whites trx does the same thing anybody know about this?

Both my TRX units play well with the Deus. There is some crosstalk, but it's not bad at all unless you point the tip within something like 2 feet of the coil.

They ARE supposed to come out with a pinpointer. Late this year or early next.

Yeah, that works probably better than pulling headphones (agree the latter is a PITA). To be honest, my carrot doesn't interfere (unless I happen to set it down next to the coil, ha) so I guess I got lucky on the frequency setting on mine so I don't have to pull my h/p or switch programs during target recovery.

Also, I went to the Deus Bible - Also known as Andy's Handbook and confirmed the following (factoid box on p. 32): You cannot offset 4khz at all and Tx power is locked at 3 when operating at that frequency [that is one case where the high beams in fog analogy comes in, for highly minerlized soil, as shown on the FeO bargraph display, then high Tx power can actually reduce detection effectiveness like high beams getting scattered in the fog, therefore, 4 khz may not be ideal for highly mineralized soils since you cannot reduce Tx power]. For the other three operating frequencies, use of any +/- offset will lock Tx power at 2. This makes sense since the coil is probably tuned to be optimal at the base frequencies and less efficiencient at the offsets so driving more power into the coil is counterproductive. hth

Well because of the conflicting info posted in Andy's book and in the XP manual itself regarding TX POWER on frequency offset, I got the answer from Andy himself, he stated that Tx Power is locked at 3 when in frequency shift/offset, so probably a typo in his book. Still waiting on total confirmation on that, but the preponderance of evidence points to Tx Power = 3 when using frequency offset. HTH.

I'm half tempted to get off the couch, turn my unit on and find out the answer for myself.

I don't think you can, once you go to frequency offset, the advanced function of Tx Power is not accessible so you can't see firsthand what level it is locked to, hence all the speculation and confusion.

Ah...that makes sense. I had forgot about that.

TRX can damn near touch the coil without issue when using 4khz on deus. Found that out today while hunting.

I was operating in 12khz this evening using a carrot, no issues at all. However last week it seemed to make the Deus chatter in 12khz. Is it possible that it could be environment dependent? It only happened that one time at that one area.

the garrett man said the frequency varied just alittle on each propointer so some will be worse than others in 12kh, but I will say I have experienced different things in different environments on same site such as early in the morning my machine chattered and when it got hotter it calmed down go figure.

that sounds aggravating to me when I dig a hundred holes in a day. I will get my old one back from my son in law and give him the new one. Heath said the whites trx does the same thing anybody know about this? The moral of this story is hurry up Deus and come out with the goods!
Yeah, my TRX gets chattery around the Deus. I have found though, that if I place my detector at arm's length away from me on the ground, I don't really get much interference. That's OK though... because when the Deus pinpointer comes out, my TRX is likely to become a dust collector.

I will officially put my carrot away too!

You should also stop using your pinpointer while you're at it, ba domp bomp.

I'm here all week folks...

Seriously, it looks very promising that XP is going to come out with that pinpointer soon based on the September XP Rally in the UK flyers that have been posted online. Hoping to see it soon.

The pinpointer better be able to discriminate targets, or what's the point if it's more than a Ben Franklin and you already own a pinpointer? :dontknow:

Agreed, thought it would work like the sunray in line pinpointers where you would get tones and vdi consistent with target you are recovering with the added bonus of being wireless. Haven't seen the details (or even pricing) so who knows?
