The tale I like most is the prospector who found the trail of Spanish signs,
followed them to the mine as if possessed. It was almost as if he was being shown the mine and the cache of bars inside.
he packed up several of the bars and headed back to town, intending to come back soon.

When he went to get the rest he couldn't find the mine or the cache.
the supposition is that the spirit of the Spaniard had shown him the mine as it had existed during the Spaniard's time.

Of course it wouldn't look the same now

:icon_thumleft: That's sorta like "Trans-location" or something like that... INTERESTING stuff!

A man named Bob Allen wrote a book about his and his partner's experiences in tracking down a Spanish gold diggings. He was very good at deciphering Spanish trail signs and symbols. The name of the book is Forgotten Trails and Devil's Gold;, copyrighted 1991. In this book he tells of different trails he followed and what different symbols meant. The main story of this book is the last hunt they were involved with. The signs they had followed seemed to say the mine they were looking for was cursed and they were told by someone he simply called "The Old Indian" that they should not continue and he, the Indian, left them on the trail. Continuing anyway, they came up to a shear cliff that was across the trail and was insurmountable. They couldn't climb it and couldn't go around. So they backtracked to a small town and had a friend fly in and then fly them back over the area. Point One: that cliff was not on their maps. Point Two: that cliff was not there when they flew back over the trail. They went BACK into the area on the trail and while camping close to where they figured the mine was located, Mr. Allen woke up during the night to see the apparition of an Indian warrior running at him with a lance at the ready. The lance hit him in the abdomen as he fired his carbine at the "Indian" and passed out. His partner packed him out right then to the nearest hospital and Mr. Allen was close to death and the doctors couldn't figure out WHY. He was very sickly for a few years and never got back into the field. I met his niece shortly before I left OKC and asked her if the stories in his book were very accurate or did he take a little leeway in his writings and she said that her uncle did not BS around with his writing; that if he said it happened, then it HAPPENED. I also asked if he would ever publish another book and she said that he wanted to because he'd had a long life of treasure hunting for Spanish diggings and he wanted to write about more of his adventures. But, she then said that she didn't think he'd last long enough to do that.

If you can find this book, buy it. In his stories, he tells of many of the signs he follows and DECIPHERS the signs' meanings. On the inside of the cover there is a note that some names of people and places had been change to protect privacy.

NOW, having said all of that; the question then becomes, "Can a spirit harm you?" In this case IT DID. Also, can a solid rock cliff appear across a trail and be "real" enough to touch and explore? In this case, IT COULD. That mine they were looking for had the bodies of murdered Indians buried there as sentries and one of them attacked Mr. Allen during the night and damned near killed him. The doctors never could figure out what his illness was; much less, what caused him to almost die.

:icon_thumleft: NOW, we're getting into "GHOST" SENTINELS guarding treasure(s), and we have MANY CSA/REBEL Sentinels guarding REBEL "assets" in Virginia... PIRATE GHOSTS guarding THEIR
treasure(s) along the coast of Virginia, etc. I have ALSO heard of wounds/injuries inflicted upon TH'ers by ghosts that perflexed medical staff; what I DON'T remember is... were they PHYSICAL wounds or PSYCHIC wounds... ??? :dontknow: I CAN see a TRAUMA of a EMOTIONAL wound or a MENTAL wound preventing further TH'ing; seems sorta like a "warning"; with things happening at
night, when electric influences are less (radio, TV, etc.). ONE theory is GHOSTS are electro-magnetic
plasmic beings, who are MORE active between 3 - 5 am, and can be disrupted by a small "charge" of electric BUZZ (shock)... THAT is why MOST TV shows CAN NOT get as much "action" as they want.
OLD houses/places NOT wired for electricity are gonna be MORE "active", as is "camping out" in "the
wilds". :coffee2: :icon_thumleft: ;D

We're itching to hear your stories.

Ok guys here goes the first ghostly experience I had as a young lass about 5 years of age. My grandmother had not long passed and my parents and I went to town to visit my grandfather. I adored him and I later begged to spend the night with him. It was winter time and most of the bedrooms had been shut off > large old high ceiling home with a long center hallway. I slept with my grandfather that night. He started snoring almost immediately and I was having trouble getting to sleep ! We lived on a big farm where it was always only crickets that you heard at night or possibly a dog barking from a distance. Granddad however lived in town > street lights shinning through the windows and cars passing on the street. A lot of noise for this little country girl  Well I am clueless as to what time it was but it sounded like someone was in the house walking around :-\ I remember slipping over a little closer to granddad when the bedroom door creaked opened :dontknow: no one there > but suddenly my grandmother gooseneck rocker started to rock !! I think I really might have been scared by this time as I shook grands awake and told him the rocker was rocking by itself !!! Know what grands said > Oh lass go back to sleep, it is only your grandmother ! and with that piece of information he turned back over and was snoring to the roof !!!! Needless to say , I do not know when the rocker stopped rocking but my head was under the quilted covers and under grands back all night !!! The next day he explained under my repeated questioning about the rocker, that this was a common occurrence since my grandmother had died ! That I was not to be disturbed by it and how comforting he found it ??? Well he also joked that I had been a bad bedfellow ! So here starts my fascination with ghostly happenings  And there has been many >> hope you enjoyed > Carolinadigs

Carolinadigs, that was a great story. Not hard to figure out why you never forgot it.

...waiting on the next one. ;D

It looks like the believers are winning.

The believers are winning in a poll that asks "Do you think ghosts are real?" on a board entitled "Psychics/Mediums/Paranormal." That is shocking. It's sort of like posting a poll on "Today's finds" that says "Do you believe metal detectors work?"

Given the fact that these threads are read and posted to by believers AND nonbelievers, I don't think the "winning" comment is out of place. I would venture to guess that, world wide, there are more people who believe in the paranormal, than those who don't.

For once, we agree. I think there are more people that believe in paranormal than don't as well. Deism of any sort is a paranormal belief. My point was that if this poll were taken somewhere that wasn't focused on the very subject the poll is about, it would be more accurate.

I DON'T think that 95% (as the poll indicates, roughly) of folks beleive in ghosts.

That's 81.5% of people who have read this thread and participated in the poll - that say yes they believe.

Take a general consensus of the population and of course the numbers will change.

Take a poll in another country, or another culture and the numbers will change again.

And if you conducted that pole, I think you'd find more believers than nonbelievers. One thing is sure, believing in ghosts doesn't make them real, and doubting doesn't make them unreal.

Kevo_DFX,

The ghost of that guy in your avatar, Hank Williams, is thought to "visit" the Old Ryman Auditorium in Nashville from time to time.
