A small town about 10 minutes from me is adding a spray park to their city park. I?ve been monitoring their progress. Today I saw on their Facebook that construction had started. An afternoon drive-by didn?t look to promising just a scrape. From the street it look like they just torn the lawn up. The scrape ended up being 6 inches down at its deepest.

Maybe my best hunt ever. I dug more wheats than modern coins. Two Barbers and two Mercs. Three Indians and a whopping 19 wheats. Ring on left of photo is marked sterling. My favorite find is a sterling spoon bowl featuring Teddy B and Teddy G. They appear to be two Theodore Roosevelt era children?s characters. The break was old and the handle was no where to be found.

I agree...the spoon bowl is a really neat find. I'm thoroughly impressed with all those wheaties ( and the silvers too, of course). Clearly no one has devoted much time to detecting that spot. I'm guessing there's more to be uncovered. Congrats.

Nice finds! I love that Carhartt token!

Thats great news squirrel.....that may be the motherlode spot for you. Congrats...the more scraping the better.

That's the way to do it...:headbang:

Looks like you timed it right Squirrel. Great finds.

Good catch on the ground disturbance.
Some parks in G.R. been targeted for "improvements" for a while. ....

North of you I scored a Merc from a well worked park when they added sidewalks. The trench dug for them brought stuff within reach (the new ground level in them being lower than before) that was too deep before.

Of interest too was the dirt piles they removed from those shallow trenches. Most coins in the piles were not hop up and down excitedly kind of old, But obviously missed before.... The sides of the trenches with fresh soil a couple inches deep produced little. I didn't figure out why , unless it was from near the surface of prior ground level.

Congrats! Stay on the disturbed earth...

Nice hunt! There are many local areas where I'd love to see them take the sod off. Anything to remove some of the junk stuck in the top 6".

Killer hunt - well done ! :icon_thumleft:

Good eye on a good spot! Good luck on your return!

Awesome hunt!! Nice to get rid of that 6" of modern junk! How deep were most of your targets?

Not deep at all, I was surprised. Most were no deeper than 3 inches. When I first learned of the project I saw they had staked out the location on the grass, I detected that area before they scraped and only found modern coins and trash. The dirt is littered with old trash.

Last night I used the 8 inch coil. I am planning to go back today or tomorrow with the 6 inch coil and try to sniff out a couple more finds.

Oh man squirrel that is an awesome huntblove the silver spoon and you?re right nothing beats a small town

Wow, great finds, I bet Carhartt's would love to have that button.
