Can $5,000 be closer than once believed?
Don in SoCal
Yep, and it won't stop at $5K.

Gold's current value is $4,038.10, so to hit $5,000/oz, it needs to rise an additional $961.90.

Since the start of this year, Gold has risen a total of $1,398.30/oz, which is an average of $155.37 per month over the last 9 months (Jan - Sept). If gold continues increasing at its current level, it will hit $5,000/oz in approximately 6 months, or March 2026. But I have a feeling it will be sooner than that.

Just not sustainable. Buying gold at this level is not a wise decision. Past price gains don't guarantee future price gains. The higher it goes, the more sellers you will have and fewer people willing to buy at that price. Supply and demand will take over.

This reminds me of people who chase a hot stock. They see it going up rapidly for weeks, then decide to buy some shares. They end up buying at the 52 week high and it's all downhill from there. FOMO can get you in real financial trouble over the long haul.

Nothing in life is guaranteed FBT. You or me waking up tomorrow isn't guaranteed. Fortune favors the bold. So OK, say a guy is skittish and holds off. What are they holding off for? If they see the price doubles in the next 6 months, they'll kick themselves for waiting. Silver & Gold is God's money, it's never crashed, never been at 0. If your stocks go to 0, then you're wiped out, nothing more you can do. If silver/gold's value declines, continue holding and it will rebound, just like it's always done for thousands of years, all throughout human history. The members of this forum don't even have to buy gold/silver if they don't want, just continue to hold any gold/silver rings, bling, jewelry they've found with their detector.

Gold/Silver are nothing like stocks. While the stock market might have a history of 100 or so years, Gold/Silver has a proven history that's several thousand years old, there's no comparison. Stocks are based on companies, decisions their CEO makes, good or bad PR, good or bad product decisions, competition. Those companies are run by humans, who don't always make decisions in the interest of their shareholders. They may make decisions based on what benefits them financially. You're betting on a company that you have nothing to do with, no control over how they operate the company.

Gold & Silver are inanimate objects, they're not part of a company, their value is determined not by a company, or executives, or shareholders, but by the entire global market. Gold & Silver have been highly valued and prized all throughout history, since humans first walked the earth. Wars have been fought for it, Pirates plundered ships for it. Kingdoms were adorned with Gold/Silver. Its desirability cannot be denied, it's always going to be desired, people are always going to want it, and people will always continue to acquire it. You're a treasure hunter and I assume you go out with your detector to search for metal objects. When you go metal detecting, what metals exactly are you hoping / wanting to find?

BTW, you mentioned chasing a hot stock, seeing that it's gone up rapidly in value, which tells me that you think it's gonna crash and the buyers will get wiped out. Gold/Silver has been steadily rising for years. I've attached the increases of Gold & Silver for the last 5 years. Not an overnight sensation or rapid increase for only a few weeks, but a steady and consistent rise over many years.

Silver has suddenly found a demand increase. 2/3oz per sq. meter of photovoltaic panel. Gold used in AI farms must be another demand. So how much gold and silver will be used in space?
Most of this data was sourced from Google AI search engine.

Don't think it's going to crash, but it could get a 15% correction in a blink of an eye. If we get peace in the Middle East and end this government shutdown, the price could easily drop that much. No big deal if you're in it for the long term, but who wants to buy anything at a premium and watch your investment go down 15% or more?

Yeah buddy! And in addition to photovoltaic panels, satellites, and high-tech products, I think most people would be surprised to learn that silver & gold are used in a wide variety of electronic products, like computers, TV's, etc. That's why there's companies and businesses that will accept your unwanted electronics for recycling. They go through those to reclaim any gold/silver they can find.

In order of resistance, Silver provides the lowest electrical resistance of any metal, followed by copper, gold, aluminum, and iron. Although copper provides more resistance than silver, it's still an acceptable level and is MUCH less expensive than silver. So that's why it's used in house wiring, A/C cables & extension cords, overhead power lines and just about any cable that has electricity running through it.

I've personally used silver in electronics. Years ago, I used to rebuild guitar amps. At that time, everyone else was using either cloth covered copper wire for the vintage look, or PVC (plastic) insulated copper wire. PVC hookup wire is rated for 300V. But I was fortunate to find Teflon silver coated stranded wire. Teflon insulation doesn't burn or melt when touched with a soldering iron, is rated for 600V, and the stranded copper wire was totally coated with pure silver. Silver is the highest conductor of all metals and provides the least resistance. So, in electronics, if/when minimal resistance is required, silver coated hookup wire can be used to reduce resistance in a circuit. So many uses it just boggles the mind, lol.

Dows 80 bucks right now. I warned you guys. Watch out for FOMO. Better to miss a rally than to buy at the high point and take a beating when the rally ends...

Take a breath FBT, it's just a snapshot of a specific moment of time during the day, in all likelihood due to some sellers who wanted to cash out. Silver was $49+ yesterday, went over $50 this morning, then climbed over $51. I'm sure some sellers cashed out when it went over $51, which of course would cause silver to drop, which it did. But once it drops to a certain point, buyers waiting on the sidelines start buying and price starts climbing back up, which is what it's doing now. It's currently at $49.60 and climbing. The key was that it did cross $50, even crossed $51, so it will work its way back up, same with gold. Yesterday, gold was closing in on $4,100. Some sellers probably cashed out and today it dropped below $4,000, but climbing back up and is within a few dollars of $4K. You can look and see prices rising and falling all throughout the day. A single snapshot of time during 1 specific day doesn't make a rally but also doesn't signify the rally is over. Let's see how it plays out over the next couple of days, that would be a much better indication then just a single point in time during 1 day's trading.

You bring up a good point FBT that I hadn't mentioned. I'm long-term, recently retired and bought my gold/silver during the last 4 years via 401K rollovers. So, I look at silver/gold from a pair of long-term investment eyes, not a traders' eyes who would be looking to buy, then sell to make quick profits. The daily rise & fall price dance doesn't bother me one bit, as I'm looking down the road at least a year or two. But I see your point for those looking to jump in with the hopes of making a quick score of profits short term.

Probably had the sell button kicked in when it went over $50.
The one war is ending, the urge to buy might be on the horizon.
Some profit taking place also.

Looks like the price dip last Thursday was just a blip, only lasted 1 day, then prices started rebounding.

Silver went over $52/oz this morning, and Gold is over $4,100/oz. Over the next 7-10 days, silver will continue to rise, then after that, the prices will explode upwards into 3-figures. Global inventory is in extremely short supply. London, which supply's the U.S. with physical silver, is out of inventory. Metal dealers, both small and large will be running out of silver, and finding more to resupply will prove extremely difficult. They'll be looking to buy silver from anybody, anywhere, and when there's no supply readily available, the prices will skyrocket. The next 1-2 weeks should be very interesting.

There's chatter that there's no sales happening out of the Perth mint.
Delivery for silver to India hasn't been filled.
