Gold at $4,036 (Oct. 8th 2025)

The Hunt brothers tried to corner the market on silver in 1980. That did not end well for them and this will not end well for anyone stockpiling gold and silver. There is a HUGE amount of gold and silver being mined every day. The rough estimate is up to 10 TONS of gold a day and 77 TONS of silver a day. The higher the prices go, the faster it will be mined and refined, creating a glut in the market. There is no shortage anywhere in this world.

LOL, keep thinking that FBT, that was then, this is now, totally different situation we're currently in. Keep watching price of silver climb, and word of the inventory shortage will probably start leaking out bit by bit. Within a month, maybe even sooner, everyone will probably know.

Global silver demand has outstripped supply for the past four years, using up the surplus produced in the previous five years. Even in 2025, supply is struggling to keep pace, as about 70% of silver is a by-product of mining other metals, limiting how quickly output can respond to price increases.14 hours ago

I believe that you might benefit from reading this article on the topic.
Yes there was a couple of dudes that thought cornering the silver market 45 years ago was a win win.
Times have changed and the gap between supply and demand has drawn significant investment, including purchases of physically backed ETFs, coins, and bars, further widening the structural deficit and pushing prices to new record highs.

Here's some additional info I came across. As an AF AMMO Vet, this is right up my alley. The U.S. Military uses an enormous amount of silver.

A Tomahawk Cruise Missile contains up to 500 oz of silver. It's used for wiring, hardening, countermeasure systems and battery units. They use silver to avoid lead-based solders and to ensure the reliability of complex electronics. No wonder those missiles cost between 1.3-4.25 million $ per missile. Also, Torpedoes use silver batteries.

So how much silver does the U.S. Military use each year?

At its peak, the U.S. military was using around 100 million ounces of silver a year, and that number was expected to double to 200 million ounces. The demand for silver was so high that production couldn't keep up. In fact, global silver production fell short by a whopping 25 million ounces.

Also, keep in mind that any silver used for weapons system, like the Tomahawk or Torpedoes, is gone once the weapon is fired. There's no recycling or reclaiming silver once the weapon goes boom. So that's millions of ounces of silver we'll never see again.

Everyone is buying metals out there... and every country is stockpiling them as well.
People are diversifying / securing wealth with metals more than ever.

I will go ahead and "coin" the next "term"... - "The Metal War"...... which has now begun.

Nothing in life is guaranteed FBT. You or me waking up tomorrow isn't guaranteed. Fortune favors the bold. So OK, say a guy is skittish and holds off. What are they holding off for? If they see the price doubles in the next 6 months, they'll kick themselves for waiting. Silver & Gold is God's money, it's never crashed, never been at 0. If your stocks go to 0, then you're wiped out, nothing more you can do. If silver/gold's value declines, continue holding and it will rebound, just like it's always done for thousands of years, all throughout human history. The members of this forum don't even have to buy gold/silver if they don't want, just continue to hold any gold/silver rings, bling, jewelry they've found with their detector.

Gold/Silver are nothing like stocks. While the stock market might have a history of 100 or so years, Gold/Silver has a proven history that's several thousand years old, there's no comparison. Stocks are based on companies, decisions their CEO makes, good or bad PR, good or bad product decisions, competition. Those companies are run by humans, who don't always make decisions in the interest of their shareholders. They may make decisions based on what benefits them financially. You're betting on a company that you have nothing to do with, no control over how they operate the company.

Gold & Silver are inanimate objects, they're not part of a company, their value is determined not by a company, or executives, or shareholders, but by the entire global market. Gold & Silver have been highly valued and prized all throughout history, since humans first walked the earth. Wars have been fought for it, Pirates plundered ships for it. Kingdoms were adorned with Gold/Silver. Its desirability cannot be denied, it's always going to be desired, people are always going to want it, and people will always continue to acquire it. You're a treasure hunter and I assume you go out with your detector to search for metal objects. When you go metal detecting, what metals exactly are you hoping / wanting to find?

BTW, you mentioned chasing a hot stock, seeing that it's gone up rapidly in value, which tells me that you think it's gonna crash and the buyers will get wiped out. Gold/Silver has been steadily rising for years. I've attached the increases of Gold & Silver for the last 5 years. Not an overnight sensation or rapid increase for only a few weeks, but a steady and consistent rise over many years.
The conservative thing to do if someone is worried is to sell half and lock in those gains and ride the other half for future upticks.

The end of the shutdown will be the litmus test. If it doesn't tank, then the sky may be the limit. Silver coins are currently at 38.5x face value. I may regret it, but I'm selling all my junk silver and all the silver Rosies, Mercs and Washington quarters I've found while metal detecting if it hits 40x.

And just as many people are grabbing all their Sterling silver and silver coins and selling them like crazy. Not everyone can afford to have a portfolio that includes gold and silver. Many people are having a hard time right now with inflation and unemployment. Getting 53 bucks an ounce for their junk silver and beat up Sterling silver items is a godsend to them.

This is what happend in 1980. I remember my father taking all his junk silver coins and their "heirloom" Sterling silver to the local pawn shop and coming home with close to 1000 bucks. That was a huge windfall back then because the economy sucked in 1980. The same thing is happening now, which adds a huge amount of silver to the daily production of silver. The price just can't keep going up. I'm still predicting a crash in the near future.

You're still going have to wait for awhile yet.
Silver has gone up 1% a day over the past week.
Morgan's are 40x but the small silvers ste still under your sell button.
Remember the cut the buyer is going to be taking off that 40x.

I sell gold to a jeweler that has a small gold refining machine that uses the aqua regia process. He pays me spot and no refining charge, but he is a friend ! He buys Nuggets for a significant premium over spot.
