Gold Class Ring sees the light of day again.

Hunting on the hill of junk at the local park. Hundreds of pull tabs and silly bottle caps. It was a shallow 37 37 37, I was thinking of passing it by but it was such a solid tone. When I uncovered it I just turned my machine off as I knew I wouldn't be finding anything any better. Class of 1987. As unreal as it sounds....the name on the inscription, I knew the person. He has a very distinctive last name. He and his sister grew up in the same neighborhood in the 70's. We attended the same elementary school in Battle Creek Michigan. I reached out to him on FB, no response yet. How crazy!!

Boy that's a nice hefty looking slug of gold. I found a class ring along a shore of a lake fishing for bass long ago. It had the initials BB and was for a high school in Suart, Iowa. Got it back to the owner who's name was Bill Boss, who was very grateful it had been found.

Another white whale for me! Alot of people would just keep it ! He was fortunate that a honest and caring person found it!

I can imagine he and his family likely had the financial means to purchase a 14k class ring, as most gold ones sold were probably 10k, and the majority of the rings sold were non-precious metals. In 1987 the price of gold was around 450 bucks an ounce on average, so that ring likely cost close to 600 bucks at the time of purchase.
