Hey guys after 6 years of swinging I finally did it! I dug it up yesterday morning at a farm in SJ. It looked like a copper that I didn’t know existed it was so incrusted. The funny thing is after I found it I put in my chest pack and swung for another 2 hours thinking there’s gotta be a gold coin here when I’m all actuality it was in my pack already. Any way thought I’d share with everybody
Looks like 1854 D

Wow awesome congrats! Wonder why its so corroded but hey gold is GOLD!

Thanks yea I was wondering same thing I actually thought it was a counterfeit when I realized what it was.

Amazing. Wonder if it had been in a fire?

Great find! You mentioned you thought it may be counterfeit.
How much does it weigh? A gold coin will weigh noticeably more than a copper..enough to make you stop and think twice. Over twice the weight for its size.

Had to have gone through a fire.
Maybe there was a cabin nearby that burned with valuables inside and there are more scattered?!

I don't think I've ever seen a dug coin from Dahlonega. That's AWESOME! Huge congrats.

looks like its been in an area where it got walked on a lot

Great find !

I'd take it to a local coin shop and let them look at it.

Good Luck !

Wow congrats and the Dahlonega mints are rare!

Whether gold or contemporary counterfeit, its an exciting find. I'd be thrilled either way, congrats.

Congratulations on joining the Gold coin club.

Thanks for the supportive comments! The dark spots are the caked on dirt I can’t get off not pitted spots just an FYI

FAN DOLLAR TASTIC!

I would take it to a coin shop for an opinion. A lot of contemporary counterfeit coins have been made through the ages I have found my fair share of contemporary counterfeit "silver" coins in the past. Most of mine were made of pewter.

Best of tnet page 2 under my first username on the forum. When I posted mine I was called a liar.

Slightly jealous...great hunt!
