So I'll admit that I find it thrilling to go through trash and junk piles people put on the side of the road for pickup wether its from spring cleaning or an eviction I always find something to take home(usually antique furniture) but I never thought I'd find two gold rings. The rings were in a black trash bag with a lot of costume jewelry, papers and other stuff that looked like it came from a junk drawer. I gave the one not pictured to a friend who needed a ring to propose marriage with lol. It is a little smaller than this one with less diamonds and is 14k and the one pictured it 10k. This was an eviction house as the sign was posted on the door. I guess the landlord didn't do a whole lot of searching because there was a lot of nice toys and kitchen items that I also grabbed. Sorry for he camera phone pic.

Side note: both rings were wedding type rings so this lady musta been busy.

It shouldn't be to hard to find the owner. Good luck.

Nice! Gold is where you find it!

The owner posted this thread. ;)
If I had some d.n.a and a good detective I'd be able to find them. I talked to the landlord who was outside today. He said the people who lived there moved in with the people that were on the lease and the people who were on the lease apparently moved out months ago and he just found out and evicted. He only knew the lady by her first name and her sons first name. No inscriptions on the rings other than 10k and 14k. Would you just give the landlord the rings?

stuff put out for trash is up for grabs, it's yours

Hence the saying " one persons trash is another's treasure " metal detecting , yea,. I've returned them.. Dumpster diving.. You earned man. Grats!!!!

Beautiful ring! Way to go on thinking outside the box and recovering those rings. :occasion14:

I wouldn't Give it to the landlord. I was thinking that the person that just got put out on the street with all there belongings could really use it to get back on their feet, but that's coming from a landlord who's tenants pay the rent. I guess all's fair....

I don't know where you guys are going with this. But, I feel like ringing (Pun) in on this. I can only speak of my States law regarding eviction since, this is the only place I've worked in law.

Landlords are required to store evicted parties items after an eviction, for at least 15 days and must give the items back to them if asked.

My opinion of the proper owner of these rings is simple. If the landlord acted in accordance with applicable laws in the state in with this occurred, then the rings are in the possession of the rightful owner now.

However, if the Landlord evicted the sub-leasers the tossed their stuff out in order to met a timeline of re-renting the property with no regard of the evicted party or the law. Then "I" would feel obligated to contact the original tenant to determine who was still in the home when he/she left. And "I" would return the property. Eviction proceedings are public and all information regarding them is easily accessible at the courthouse. The procedures for Eviction in every jurisdiction is easily available on the internet or the local courthouse. Including the Landlords requirements regarding personal property left behind.

My reasoning is simple. In the 12 years that I have worked in Law, I have seen a huge amount of terrible tenants. But I have also seen some rather despicable Landlords. I've seen enough that I don't give the benefit of doubt to either party in such cases.

In an eviction, the last day, Sheriff shows up and you are removed with no opportunity to collect personal property. And we don't know if the tenants understood the procedure or not. We don't even know if the Landlord followed the procedure correctly. I've seen documents served to dumpsters many times.

That's my two cents worth.

Awesome finds.

Well I'm not concerned about the landlords right or wrong doing. He said the people have been gone for a month and was just getting around to cleaning the place out. Apparently they punched holes in the walls, trashed every piece of carpet, removed the interior doors and left all of the toilets full of their feces and took what they wanted and left what they didn't. Like was said before what's put out at the trash is up for grabs. I've pulled stuff out of trash piles more valuable than these rings.

Nice saves literally!

That is why it is called Treasure hunting. Welcome to T-net. Nice bling.
I bet you could get in a mid range detector with that.
Then who knows what luck will bring your way.

Well, at least you talk to the lanlord, and that is good enough in this situation. I have no regard for people who liberally trash someone else property like that. Dirtbags do that.

I've rummaged throu piles of junk hunting for treasure, and it can be rewarding. Last year I scored about $2k in equipment from a pre-foreclosure house (with the owners permission). I didn't even think of it as treasure hunting, until now.

Silverdime, Awesome gold find.

I didn't think of it as treasure hunting much either. Until I started finding real silverware and 18th century furniture and then gold. I'm always on the lookout now. On another note I found a silver ring today In a park with my md.
