Gold has iron tone on Beach

It's good to have ESPN. Congrats, those are nice.:icon_thumleft:

I tested it and it’s at lease 10K. Actually tested twice with the same result.

With a magnet as well? Not saying they aren't 10k, just wondering if there is wire in there somewhere.

Nice finds. Sometimes you gotta go with the gut. Playing the odds is always a gamble. For gold, you really can only be sure if you dig it all.

I just got back to Savannah from a business trip to Charlotte, NC. I actually met up fellow TNet'er Carolina Tom, which he already posted about our hunt at an old school.

Anyway, I put a magnet on the earrings and they stuck to it. So there must be an iron wire inside them.

I also did the acid test twice again and both times had the same results- 10K gold.

But then I looked at the worn spots on the earrings from the acid test scratchings with a loop and could see a small spot of copper peaking through. So they are fake junk. Terry Soloman, you called it correctly.

The gold plating must be fairly thick to be able to scratch a sample a few times and get gold?

Anyway, finding a matching set of earrings on the beach was still fun.

Yeah i have a pile of plated stuff that I first though was real for the same reason. Since its all getting melted i take a slice and look for copper.

good information thank you and good video

Congrats on some nice bling.
