Gold in Gatlinburg area?

My wife and I are headed to the Gatlinburg area for a few days and would like to try panning. Are there any spots we can try and not be in trouble with the law?

I don't know what the local laws are concerning Gold Prospecting in the Gatlinburg area but you might check with the City Offices and/or Police Department. Just don't try prospecting upstream or downstream of Gatlinburg unless you are in the Pigeon River that runs through Pigeon Forge or Sevierville, otherwise you will be in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and have everything confiscated including your freedom.

I heard that a guy panned the creek that run thru Gatlinburg and got color. Nearest place after that is Coker creek or around Bald River Falls. Just make sure you have permission.Enjoy the area.
