It looks old but i broke it with my shovel. It has a fastening device on the back. I've found 1700's items at the same location. Thanks.

The tabs on the back make me thing belt buckle, but it does seem too big to be one.

Tabs look like a hinge point to me.....mirror?

Back of an oval picture frame or mirror the hinge is for the leg to hold up frame.IMO

I agree with a (once) highly polished brass mirror for standing on a vanity or desk. Sub 8-)
