'Gold Rush' Season 4 premiere

well against my better judgement, I got up this morning & watched the 2 hour premier
on my DVR
before coming online.

I didn't watch their 1 Hour spoiler talk show before,
I just deleted that.

====

Looks to me like Parker Schnabel is going to be the New Todd for comedy relief.
working with nothing to go on. Best drill holes showed "Trace".
I'm thinking his so Called friend Tony Beets is laughing through his scruffy beard,
behind his back.
I hope Parker didn't pay him for the land. Parker said it right,
Tony wont mine the land.

====

although the attempt at Drama failed, the Hoffman crew just may have
their crap together this year. not quite as Much "Waa Waa Waaaaa"
& no crying poverty yet,
when they needed something done, They coped & did it.
Fixed a Bridge, Hired a chopper to rush them a Diesil Filter, Crawled under wires
with their heavy equipment, with no mishaps

They actually looked like semi-Pro

BS on the diamonds though imo, I still think diamonds are for Chumps.
I hope they are only mentioning them, for show filler.

====

the other crew with Fred the claim jumper, was a waste of space to fill a 2 hour show
IMO
just driving in snow, getting stuck , & trying to add drama.
:Add Yawn Gif here

====

now, unless next week is a 2 hour behind the scenes recap show.
and another 6 week hiatus till the next episode :(

I guess I'll stick around :icon_thumleft:

Parker stepped up and did a good job for his first year in the Klondike.

Dustin is fearless but not sure he chose the right location to drill a core sample.
And drilling only one location for a core sample is pretty weak. I guess one is better than none.

The Hoffmans jungle disaster should be a wake up call to them. It takes more than just throwing money away on super equipment to be successful.

GG~

yes seriously, if Dustin gets a good sample, how is he going to Mine it ? :icon_scratch:

but then what about the sample he took before that he said was so good ?

I suppose Fred will show up and tell him where to drill the next one if that one turns out to be a bust.

GG~

Guess we will see next week if Parker gets to a thousand oz.s before he gets frozen out.....

GG~

I sure hope this is the last we see of Toad Hoffman and (Dad) Mr. No Guts No Glory. Maybe Toads wife will finely divorce the idiot of which she should have the first time. Feel really sorry for the rest of the crew being suckered in by these two. Discovery should wash their hands of these two and give Freddy Dodge and Dave Turin a shot. Both have the common sense to take the operation back to Alaska and run it correctly.

I'm thinking Freddy Dodge will have his own series or he'll be one of four operators...Parker, Dave Turin, the Hurts, Freddy Dodge. Freddy may have a lower 48 based operation.
Come back to this thread next November and see how close I called it.:icon_thumleft:

I don't see Discovery ever replacing the Hoffmans as long as the show continues to get the ratings. Remember Discoveries goal is to show gold mining and miners at their worst and the Hoffman crew provides exactly that. I believe that Freddy Dodge is a little too professional and rational for Discoveries taste. Wouldn't suprise me to find out that they limited his exposure on the show for that very reason.

GG~

blast it ! And use a loader at the bottom to load into a crusher!

Freddy already has a large gold mining and processing operation here in Colorado. The first year he was on the show as a tech advisor it was his choice to stay mostly off camera. The show convinced him to be more visible the second year because they needed a credible character on the show...yes, they realize what idiots the Hoffmaniacal guys are.

it's clearly not about being a gold miner to them ! It's about being a movie star now... Sad to say but even Dave Turin seems to be on board with this..

It would be awesome to see His setup .but so,ething tells me there's just not enough drama ... They would have to build the drama in...

I'm guessing just over a thousand

Maybe I misread the Preview at the end which got cut short due to my dvr
stopping recording at exactly 10pm, but it looked like Tony Beets
is going to actually jump in and do some work in order to help Parker try and reach his goal.

which my guess may also be some reverse editing.
He may have been holding back on his real numbers
last week.

I think I also heard Parker say his grandfather was back in in the hospital at the time
they were
filming next weeks episode. So maybe it's a "this ones for you Grampa !,
See your grandson hit the Million mark
on the land you suggested" deal.

I have to give some credit to Todd's old man.
He does appear to at least try to do some work, in spite of his addiction.
we do get a glance of him in the loader on occasion.

as far as Todd. I don't think I saw him do anything yet
but cheerlead

Exactly..... No drama no ratings. Did they just abandon all that equip?

they were told to get it off the property.

it is possible the equipment's up for sale, or they found another landowner
willing to let them play in the mud.

what I don't get, I'm sure Discovery is leasing the land.
it's obvious, at least to me, the land is worthless otherwise,
so Why kick them off ?

very unsexy and undramatic to all but us gold nuts I'm afraid. Freddy's family have been gold miners in CO for generations and it's still a family business. His 12-13 your old daughter is already involved and has pushed him to be on tv more. I think he does the show as much to make her proud as to make the money they pay him :)

So do you think that pan of nuggets that Freddy displayed on "The Dirt" came from Colorado?

Not likely. The gold from his commercial op is mostly very fine just like most of the rest of the CO gold you've seen. Still possible I suppose but not likely.

Well I finally got around to watching it on the DVR this morning. Can't say that there were any surprises. Glad Parker made his goal and then decided to up the ante to a thousand Oz. I must have missed them mentioning that Grandpa was in the hospital. I like that guy! Very good people and down to earth. Hope everything is fine with him.

The Dakota boys really need to do some thinking on how to get equipment up to Calhoon if they do find the source of the gold. It's not going to be cheap or easy to do but where there's a will there's a way. Granted I felt like Fred was scum when he snatched the claim out form under Todd at the start of the second season, but he's proven to be a pretty good guy and a lot better miner than Hoffman will ever be.

Speaking of the Hoffman crew.... Dave needs to bail on Todd and Co and start his own operation off camera. I don't think he likes all the drama they put into the show and would rather run a serious operation. Now if they did bring in Freddy, you know it would be a no nonsense type of operation with little to no drama. Discovery isn't going to go for that so I doubt we'll ever see Freddy as a full timer on the show. Maybe having to eat a healthy helping of "Humble Pie" will teach Todd a lesson that he's needed from the start of the show. That being "Listen to those that know and stop putting the cart before the horse."

Unless there's some major changes made in the show by Discovery, I doubt that I will continue to watch. As a miner I'm tired of them portraying miners in such a bad light. They seem to do their best to make us look incompetent and we've got enough of an image problem as it is thanks to the "Greenies". Most mining operations don't have the drama they show on the show. Sure there's equipment breakdowns and such but they make it look like every breakdown is the end of the world! A smart operation would have scheduled maintenance so their equipment keeps running when it is supposed to.

Ahhhh... Here's a plot twist for them..... Have Todd and Co move back up north and then be raided by EPA agents in swat gear! Now THAT would be worth watching!
