Does this look like gold? Found in a creek stuck to a black rock.
I'm a newbie to this site so thank ya'll for your help!

Looks like it but a simple test to see if it is, block the light going to it. If it goes dark in color not, but if it still stays bright it's gold. Even if you are 4ft down a dark hole gold will be easy to see.

looks like gold, how thick? natural gold almost never comes as a foil...

Do a scratch test on a piece of unglazed tile and see what color it leaves on the tile. If the results show up as gold in color , then you got something ! It sure looks like it's a piece of placer ,but I've seen people electro-plate "stuff" and it looks good............

Simple knife tests also-if it cuts and is bendable that's good. If it cracks,crunches or crumbles usually fools gold or iron based. Looks real enough but not in my hands so just a guess. How big and weight would be a great help to id also. John

Some spots look a little silvery, so it might be a gold/electrum/silver halfbreed, or may have slight mercury contamination.
