My parents are redoing the garden, they went and bought alot of small stones to use in a lane. When they had placed all the stones there was alot of dust looking like gold dust. Also smaller flakes, I have them in the sand still as I don't have a pan or an effective way to seperate them atm. So I started looking at the stones and some of them have flakes in them, so I'm wondering if it's gold or something else?

Here is a pic of a stone...

Interesting, I wonder where the stones come from, gonna have to try to lurk that out when they are to buy more. In what way coould the gold from such stones be seperated? Would it even be profitable? Too bad I know nothing about gold :(

I agree looks like gold. Try to remove some of it and see if it soft. If it cracks, chips or shatters it's not gold. As far as seperating it from the stone the simplest way is to crush the stones and pan out the gold.

Don't crush those stones. They are worth more as they are. Find a rock club or a chapter of the GPAA in you area and have someone verify that it is gold. It looks like you struck gold.

;D

I don't think the GPAA is in Sweden. Not that big as far as specimens go. I'd go for it!

I'm buying a pan later this week and I'll post a pic when I've panned the sand that came with the stones. We're going to buy more stones, this was just a test delivery. My dad was angry at the store for throwing in too much sand as he had to pay for the weight. I told him to tell them to throw in all the sand next time ;)

If it turns out to be gold it could be more and larger amounts of gold in the area of where the stones came from? I just have a hard time thinking no one else have seen this, it glimmers like crazy when the stones are wet.

Certainly appears to be gold--but--just take a needle and a magnifier and see if when poked REAL good does it just dent--or crack, crumble,or crush?? I've seen folks find quite a bit of gold in aggregrate delivered for driveways and even crushed mine tailings rock and end up with a golden driveway too. My bud Bob Doelker has one--what a hoot to go and pan his driveway cons. I've definately heard of gold in Sweden---and some FINE ladies too. Tons a au 2 u 2-John

I took a deep dining plate and put some sand with "gold" flakes in it and filled with water. I don't think it's gold, it's not acting like gold. Gold is supposed to be heavier than the sand and look for it's way to the very bottom, it's not. I don't know how to better explain it. Maybe it's gold, maybe not, but from what I know about gold I'd say no :(

It looks like gold to me. Without mentioning where you got the rock, try asking a local jeweler to test it for you. They should be able to ID gold in the raw just as easy as in a ring.

Good luck!

Polarbeer,

It sure looks like gold in the stones!! ;D

Just so that you are aware, FINE GOLD particles will float and not sink, from the water's surface tension, use a drop or two of "dish washing soap" this will help "break the water tension", and try again!!! ;D

I do think that you have found gold, get some tested, if you can get a piece big enough to pick up with your fingers, try to crush it with a hammer, if it break into pieces, it is not gold, it if bends, flattens, it is metal and most likely GOLD!!!!!! ;D ;D

Good Luck, and keep us posted, and there is gold in Sweden!!!

Well..good for you...I have seen a bit of gold in my time...and though I hate to be presumptuous...that is gold..you can tell by the one fleck that is bent over..and it is obvious the host rock is a mineralized..stained quartz....very normAL host rock for gold..
Buy more gravel and rock...do not tell anyone!!!! have fun with it for as long as it lasts....
oh..and..yes the gold showing in rocks is worth more than taking it out alone..
sell the rocks as genuine swedish gold-rock specimens...

Lol "Do not tell anyone!" ::) ;D
We're in a forum mate, I think "someone" knows now. :tongue3:

I've definitely heard of gold in Sweden---and some FINE ladies too.

Oh yeah we've got gold here, I'm a gold prospector myself I should know.

In regards to the ladies I could not agree more, lovely ladies here, I'm lucky I've met one... ;D
(It's hard to find fine single ladies who know how to pan) :tongue3:

PolarBeer ever been in Ädelfors? (Nothern Småland, about 115 Km north of my place)
There's some good gold there!

Yeah I was there about 4 weeks ago and panned for the first time. I talked to another panned who found a nugget while panning there. Havn't followed up on my possible gold find yet, havn't had the time. Maybe next week...

I was there all last week and going up there on Saturday again. ;D ;D

Good company, gold, and a few pretty ladies....Can it get better?! (I don't count beer because I don't drink)
:tongue3:

Maybe we could meet there someday? :coffee2:

Let us know if you got anything.

Good Hunting!

I hate to use my first post in a negative way but what you have there is muscovite, a very common gold colored mineral in the mica family. Magnify it and see if it is platy (flat). Mica's can be split along their basal plane infinitely. I am very surprised nobody here mentioned that due to how common it is. I still would not be discouraged, the rock is obviously igneous in origin with the quartz (rusted) and the dark, mafic minerals prevalent which means there is probably gold, if even in trace amounts. :read2:

It was later on solved on another forum, don't recall the results though.

This guy has it right though. I am pretty sure it is muscovite because we have some near the house here that looks exactly like that too. However what I am not sure of is the darker rock that apparently this guy I quoted recognizes. BBad you wouldnt happen to be a geologist would you? Would be neat to have one on here to talk to, I could probably learn alot!
