whites dfx, mxt pro, tdi, bullseye II.
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Went arrowhead hunting yesterday morning with the wife and 5 year old granddaughter. I was swinging the coil as I was eyeballing the ground. I only had one signal and decided to dig it at 1” deep in a corn field that gets plowed every year. Out popped a 1877 Indian head cent. The granddaughter also got to see it happen and it was her first experience around a metal detector. On the way home my buddy called and was wanting to go diggin so we met up. About an hour later I was in a new to me spot on known civil war ground and dug someone’s old 9 volt batteries and there was large hunks of metal up against trees where relic hunters of the past chucked there junk metal. 4 steps later and I dug a US box plate with the lead melted out of it. Also ended up with several fired Minnie balls as well.

I ended up with one complete arrowhead today.

Earlier this spring I dug a 1785 2 real and the next day near the same spot got a 1773 half real.
Great year thus far!

Wow!!! Those are some great finds!!!

Wow on all fronts. Those are some incredible finds. Way to go!!

Funny story,
When I first plucked it I could not read the date (didnt have my glasses and forgot my jewelers loupe). We were on our way out of the field as I dug it. I joked to the wife and said let’s hope it’s an 1877 (she knows little about coins). While the wife was driving I snapped a pic with my phone and pinched the image out to read the date. Pull over I said! I need a better pic while we’re not moving. I think it’s an 1877! So what she said.... she pulled over and I got a better pic and also texted it to a couple buddies to see what they saw.
I wish I knew the total known genuine 77 Indians in existence to figure out the odds of finding one while detecting. I probably have a better chance of finding a gold coin hoarde than finding that date coin.

While enroute home my buddy called and wanted to hook up to dig one of our permissions. I couldn’t believe it when I dug the cartridge box plate! My wife, brother in law and diggin buddy all told me to buy a lottery ticket. I did. Bought a $5 scratch off and a powerball ticket. Won my $5 back on the scratch off and doubled my $ on the powerball ticket. I only hit the powerball number of 06 so got $4 for the $2 ticket.
