2026 has had some weird weather to start 2026 here in northeast Ohio. One day 65 degrees and four hours later below 30. I had an infected big toe nail removed in early March and it is just now healing. No way I could detect even though I tried. On top of that my wife had a stroke and cancer diagnosis. I am wondering if things could get any worse.
I have managed three two hour hunts with the VX9 with the newest version. This detector continues to impress. I have not hunted virgin sites in many years so one or two older coins makes for a successful hunt for me. I am not saying the Vx 9 is the best detector in the hobby, but I routinely find 8-9 inch deep older coins in very high trash areas. I have found 12 older wheat pennies at impressive depths. I found two no date buffalo's in places I have hunted many times. Sunday, I found silver dime from 6-7 inches with a choppy 91 signal that was slightly better from one angle. I hardly ever see a coin that is completely verticle, but this coin was clearly visible on the side of the plug absolutely straight up and down.
Sunday, I also found a war nickel from 7 inches in an extremely trashy area. Nickels are always 52 with a one digit bounce either way. This was a perfect 53 from all angles. I dug it because it was close and perfect. These are not "earth shattering" finds, but considering where they came from, it is impressive.
I am getting older and after 30 years of constant detecting, my knees are wearing out and the time I can spend detecting is dwindling. I always had one or two high end detectors so considering my situation, I decided to sell the 1500 dollar detector and use what works for me. I am now down to the VX9 and Bounty Hunter Time Ranger Pro. I paid less than 200 bucks for this detector and it this same detector as one of my previous detectors, the Teknetics G2. I feel confident riding out my time in the hobby with these two. Sorry for the ramble, as I don post much any more. PS, say a prayer for my wife!
