Got A Rock you Want Identified? Post it here! gimme a good picture or 3 or 4!

I doubt any of these are anything at all special, I'm just curious as to what they are, as they caught my eye at some time or another. All are harder than my nail except the stuff that looks like muscovite, which may even be what it is. Any help is appreciated.

So how hard is that piece? If you take a hammer to it does it splinter into shards?
Here in Colo we have mineralized Anthracite that looks very similar.

PS-1 I looked up anthracite, that does occure in the area, So I guess that makes this lignite (A.K.A. Jet Stone) Since it is harder than a knife blade.
PS-2 I just heated it with a lighter for a while and it did in fact stink like coal after that.

These were under a giant tree in the middle of a farm in northern Maryland. MDing all morning didn't see anything like it in the area. sounded like a coin

This piece was too large to move and probably too heavy to put in the car. I'm hoping to collect it as a driveway rock specimen next spring.

jungle agate

Hi, I purchased this from a store that sells semiprecious gemstones, etc.. it was labeled as "jungle agate". It's a flat oval, polished. I tried a "scratch test" to see if any color would come off but it seems to run through, although I didn't scratch it too hard because I didn't want to really ruin it. It's very light and although it says "agate", I believe it's probably a jasper because when I hold it to the light I can not see any apparent transparency. The store owner said it might come from some small place in Africa, because I could not find anything similar called "jungle agate" on the internet. The closest thing I found was Rainforest Rhyolite, or Jasper, but it has an "olive" color background where this one is "white" in the background. There is a large vein of brownish-redish which I was thinking iron? I would appreciate any help with this!!! Thanks in advance...juku

Looks to be Granite wall rock. The rusty stuff is most likely oxidized sulfides, and the silvery stuff unoxidized sulfides.
Are you near a mine? Not a bad look for a garden stone!

There are lots of types of Agate in more colors than a crayola box. Could be Malachite but I don't think so, probably just a nice agate chunk.

I'm not good on coals, but it resembles a fine grained vulcanic rock. Perhaps rhyolite.
I'd look more where that came from.

In the last 2 pics I see some stones which show potential for crystals. Perhaps quartz? Google "druzy quartz".

Possible Gold Ore ID?

hi - looking for assistance in identifying the attached photos of various rocks / minerals that may contain gold - any information on the nature (gold bearing or otherwise) of the samples is appreciated.

Hey Brother, so your best bet is to crush and pan those puppies. Your samples appear to have a bunch of iron in them, but I'm not seeing sulfide minerals that are unoxidized.
Sample 3 looks like porphyry quartz and would def be worth a smash up.
All of your samples are highly mineralized so should be smashed and panned. The black mineralization is most interesting to me. It could be one of a whole host of minerals some of which are the Goods!

Any idea what this is? Found it in Rome. It's white, with many small holes...and many of the small holes are filled with little red flecks (like bits of terra cotta)
