I found my first barber half today, it's in good shape too. The first coin I dug was a 1906 barber dime and I was pretty hyped about that. It was only about 3 inches deep so I dug a few zincs right after that thinking they might be Indian heads. My sister's boyfriend called me about 9am this morning and said he had a good spot to hunt(3 old houses) so I packed up my MXT and Eagle and headed on over there. After I had dug a few zincs and a nickel, Dan said his back was giving him problems so we started heading back to the truck but left our detectors going and when I got near the same tree that I dug the barber dime I got an awesome signal for half dollar and it pinpointed like a large coin also, I removed a large diameter plug but wasn't able to go deep cause of the maple roots and worked around the outside getting a small second (root) plug to come out and I spotted the tell tale silver rim of a large coin. I did the metal detecting jig (literally), it was an awesome short hunt, about 1 1/2 hours, I'm returning there at 10am tomorrow and see what I can find. I don't think any of these 3 old houses have been detected yet. The half was only about 3 inches down.
