I found my first barber half today, it's in good shape too. The first coin I dug was a 1906 barber dime and I was pretty hyped about that. It was only about 3 inches deep so I dug a few zincs right after that thinking they might be Indian heads. My sister's boyfriend called me about 9am this morning and said he had a good spot to hunt(3 old houses) so I packed up my MXT and Eagle and headed on over there. After I had dug a few zincs and a nickel, Dan said his back was giving him problems so we started heading back to the truck but left our detectors going and when I got near the same tree that I dug the barber dime I got an awesome signal for half dollar and it pinpointed like a large coin also, I removed a large diameter plug but wasn't able to go deep cause of the maple roots and worked around the outside getting a small second (root) plug to come out and I spotted the tell tale silver rim of a large coin. I did the metal detecting jig (literally), it was an awesome short hunt, about 1 1/2 hours, I'm returning there at 10am tomorrow and see what I can find. I don't think any of these 3 old houses have been detected yet. The half was only about 3 inches down.

Fantastic finds.
Why are you waiting until 10:00?
I'd be there just before sunrise doing the silver dance. ;D

Nice job! I'd like to find a Barber anything.

I'd have done a jig two! Actually at least 2 jigs if I'd found those!

BTW, don't rub the coins when you first get them out of the ground because the dirt on it will scratch it up....just in case you didn't know :)

WTG and thats one beautiful half

I handed the coin to Dan and the first thing he did was spit on it and I said whoa! Don't scratch it, lets wait till we get back to the house and I'll rinse it off.

Great find. I'm still waiting to find my first one. Nice job.

Finding your first Barber Half is great, the feeling of seeing big silver is one hard to describe to those who have not done so yet, but those happy thoughts are good for one's morale for sure.
Two barber's in one hunt just made your short hunt all the better, good luck on your next trip out.

Sweet find, that find will get you pumped up for the next hunt, congrats...

Giant: Great finds, I cant believe that three Barber half's were found in one day! Reb in Kansas and me in New York.
