Been out looking for my 2011 copper, got 2 today :hello2:
was pleased to see willow leaves on one while in the field.
got home & gave them a rinse,
1796 Draped Cent, my earliest US coin Find :headbang:
this has a 1797 reverse, no 1796 reverse ever issued :dontknow:
only '94, '95, & 97.
coin is toast, glad to have a visible date, sitting in oil, hoping for some detail.
the other is a British penny, no detail.
dug my coolest piece of 'Phallic Hardware' ever.
found the match to a shoe button cover I dug last summer,
and another silver quarter.
Thanks for looking & HH to All!

Your phallic item looks to me to be a triangle or similar type bayonet scabbard tip, circa 1780-1812. Just my semi-educated guess. I have one similar that was positively identified as British triangle bayonet scabbard tip. Great finds and the tip idea would match the time period of the other finds!

Thanks UnkleMudd,
Turns out the item is part of the triggerguard to a 1730s 'Brown Bess!

Awesome finds! The main thing is you can see the date. The 1784 half real I found earlier this year had only four digits showing on the obverse, and it was the date, and i was as happy as can be!

Nice group of finds Herbie ! :hello2: :hello2: Condrads on your oldest US copper :icon_sunny: MaineRelic

WTG on that Copper Herbie and I hope you find many more this year. Heck, you've found about everything else already!!!-LOL. HH, Quindy.

Hello, I think IP sent this link, 3/4 of the way down is the exact match,
http://www.11thpa.org/Bess.html
First Model 1730 long land bess, #1 in the photo.
The buttplate may be from the same weapon.
Intact screws would indicate the entire weapon was lost.
Unfortunately, there is no clay substrate the mud in this area, stuff sinks deep and it is really tough digging, you sink thigh deep, and accessible only at lowest tides, like twice a year.
Thanks all, love this 'treasure hunting' stuff :hello2:
Note: I think Breen lists a 1795 Draped bust Cent, I need to pull this coin again,
It's looking more like a 5 in the pic to me
